Communist Cars?

from the playing-nice-with-others dept

If you don’t own a car, this service gives you the option to share.? It’s not a new idea –it’s basically a car-library.? You pay a membership fee, and you can borrow a car whenever you like.? But while Americans like to share music files, DVDs, CDs, etc., I don’t think I know very many people who want to share their cars.? It seems to me that all this sharing business is getting out of hand.? Sharing cars really seems antithetical to the American Way, because we need to be -individual- consumers.? Or maybe this is the second coming of communism.? What will we share next?

If you don’t own a house, this service gives you the option to share.
It’s not a new idea –it’s basically a house-library.
You pay a membership fee, and you can borrow a house whenever you
like. But while Americans like to share music files, DVDs, CDs, etc.,
I don’t think I know very many people who want to share their houses.
It seems to me that all this sharing business is getting out of hand.
Sharing houses really seems antithetical to the American Way, because
we need to be -individual- consumers. Or maybe this is the second
coming of communism. What will we share next?

The next thing you know, there will be agencies springing up at
airports that let you rent a car for a few days. Kill these non-god
fearing communists before this gets out of hand. While you’re at it–
round up the actors and put them on trial.

Better yet, just kill everybody that doesn’t own a car. Goddamn
environmentally conscious insurgents. Worthless poor people, elementary school students, people from out of town… Wipe ’em out! It’s the Amerikkkan way.

You know– you could mention something like zipcar without bringing to bear your irrelevant politics. Zip car seems to be as capitalist as staying in a hotel or sharing a dining room table with strangers in a restaurant…

Oh my god. Relax. Take drugs. Or stop taking drugs. I don’t think I said communism was bad. And I completely agree that the ‘zipcar’ concept is pretty capitalistic since I’m sure profits are being made somewhere along the way. I actually *like* this idea of sharing. I’m just not sure it’s that great of a business model for items such as cars in the US. I think it’s a great model for Netflix, but for cars? If you think that’s a sustainable business in the US, I’ll be the first to join your company after we go over the numbers together…. Wait a sec, do *you* work for Zipcar?!?
