Tracking Visitors

from the it's-not-that-easy dept

For years popular websites have complained about how well the different tracking services determine how many visitors their site gets. Now a new service will allow companies to post their own audited traffic numbers hoping that this will allow companies a chance to accurately compare their real traffic numbers. It certainly sounds like a good idea. My only problem is that I’m not sure how good even in-house tracking systems are for measuring traffic. At Techdirt, we use three different tracking systems to see how much traffic we get, and they all give completely different results.
