Volunteers Suing Ultima Online Creators

Some volunteers who acted as “guides” on Ultima Online are now suing the creator and publisher of the game saying their volunteer work turned into a full time customer service job for which they weren’t compensated. I don’t understand this one at all. If they’re volunteers, and they don’t like the deal, they should quit. It’s pretty straightforward. I don’t see what suing gets them.
