Dot Coms Spending Less on Advertising

A new study has shown that many dot coms have cut back on ad spending to concentrate on profitability. Now, this article troubles me. I understand that last year everyone was talking about market share and that’s why advertising spending was so high. However, wasn’t the point of market share to get to profitability? If it wasn’t, then I don’t see why companies were going after market share in the first place. So, now the fact that they’re stopping advertising to concentrate on profitability, I have to wonder why they were advertising in the first place…
