The CyberSource Credit Rating

from the no-way-to-check dept

CyberSource, which at one time was just a spinoff of Beyond.com, has become one of the most powerful credit card anti-fraud systems providers out there. They have a huge database of credit card numbers and (supposedly) crazy algorithms to determine whether or not a card is likely of being fraudulent. The problem, however, is what if the card is not fraudulent, but CyberSource says it is. Suddenly you can’t buy from any of the many merchants who use their service. And, you have no way of knowing that it’s CyberSource who is the problem. Many merchants apparently won’t reveal that information. Though, CyberSource says that requests need to come via the merchant.
