The Distributed Web

from the the-pendulum-swings-back dept

Funny how these things work. Pendulums swing back and forth from distributed to centralized computing. For a while there were mainframes and dumb terminals. Then everyone was talking about power on the desktop as we entered the PC age. Then there was client-server. Then everyone was talking about network computers and the web (to some extent going back to mainframe/dumb terminal) and now (once again) we’re back to power to the desktop as everyone is talking about the distributed web specifically in the case of Napster and Gnutella. When does the pendulum swing back again?
