Government Tech Licensing

from the little-leftovers-in-the-lab dept

Nasa and many of the other government-funded labs produce a constant stream of research that may have commercial potential but the research scientists working on the technology often don’t see the broader picture. However, it seems that the numbers of small companies interested in exploiting these technologies are rapidly increasing. I guess it’s almost a reverse trend to the method used by Cisco for new technology acquisitions, the little guy commercialises from the big guy in this case and small companies may also be more efficient at government commercialisation. However, we mustn’t forget how crucial innovations are that are privately funded (just looking at IBM’s patent bank is a sufficient reminder).
