Deja Dumps Old Usenet Posts (Temporarily)

from the silly-deja dept

Folks who remember Deja from back when they were DejaNews will find this one surprising. The site, which used to be a web interface to usenet, and is now (apparently) a comparison shopping site has taken its archives of Usenet offline. Currently they only have Usenet posts from May of 1999 and forward. They promise to put the rest back online by the end of the year, and they don’t seem to think this matters at all. As someone who stopped using Usenet around 1994, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but I know people who were huge fans of Usenet and Deja as a place to search for old postings.
