Another Web Bank
from the try-try-again dept
A lot of people consider Wingspan Bank to be something of a failure. So, it’s a bit of a surprise to see the guy behind it already off starting a new online bank. Apparently, he thinks Wingspan was a success, but was too shackled to Bank One. Most people seem to think he’s crazy, but he sounds like he’s out to prove something.

wingspan a failure?
where did you hear about wingspan being a failure. To be honest it was as early as last week I was shopping for online banks. Etrade bank (old telebank) and wingspan were my contenders…
Please mention the articles you’ve seen comments on these banks
Re: wingspan a failure?
A lot of high level defections. Loss of support from Bank One. Looking to sell off the unit. Not the stuff you usually hear about a success story.

I don’t know if you have it in the US, but in Canada we have ING Direct. They started as a phone-only bank (backed by the ING bank of Holland) and have added internet access in the last year. I’ve never had a problem with them(my main criteria), and they are currently paying 5% interest on a savings account, compared to the 0.1% the regular banks pay.
