Blaming Napster for Decreased CD Sales

from the silly-record-industry dept

Here comes the record industry with their studies to prove that Napster is causing the end of the world. The latest is a study showing that CD sales at record stores near universities has gone down over the past two years. The problems with this study are tremendous. First off, Napster wasn’t around in ’98 when the study shows the biggest drop off. Second, students pointed out that they tend to purchase more CDs online now than in stores as it’s easier to do so. When will the music industry stop trying to bitch and complain and start realizing that this is a real trend that they should embrace? Only then will they be able to figure out if there’s a place for them to fit in.
