MP3.com Artists Angry at Earnings Postings

from the how-much-do-they-all-make? dept

In what seems to be an odd move, MP3.com has started showing exactly how much bands on their site make. MP3.com claims they are trying to get rid of secrecy, and be different from the recording industry. They also say it’s useful to show that bands can make money by working with a site like MP3.com. The problem is that the bands have no say in the matter, and a lot don’t like that their earnings are announced. Some are afraid it will turn away listeners who think they’ve either earned too much money already, or that if a band hasn’t made very much, they can’t be very good. With everything that MP3.com is going through right now, it’s probably not in their best interest to piss off bands.
