News.com Discovers FreeNet

from the interesting-projects dept

If you’re on any sort of “techie” mailing list then you’re probably sick of the subject already, and have gone through a whole variety of debates concerning Ian Clarke’s Freenet (as have gone on on most of the techie lists I’m involved in). However, I know that many Techdirt readers aren’t as “techie”, and here’s the first mainstream press mention that I’ve seen about it. News.com discusses Clarke’s idea for a network where everything is anonymous, and items are replicated and stored at different locations depending on interest. It’s a really interesting concept. I realize there are a lot of questions about it, but it’s worth reading about no matter what.
