The Hostile bid for Mannesman by Vodaphone Airtouch is now over, it was announced today that the takeover was going to be ‘friendly’, with Vodaphone retaining a controlling share of the new company. The deal will value the new company at about ?228billion ($365 billion), making this the leading mobile telecoms company (once the deal is rubberstamped) and the fourth largest company in the world. One consequence of this friendly takeover is that the floodgates have been opened to corporate Europe and we should soon being seeing a host of other merger activites occuring in this onced highly controlled corporate arena.
