Are We Too Enlightened for the Millennium?

from the stuff-to-think-about dept

Michael Dertouzos from MIT has written his latest column about The Enlightenment Bug, suggesting that for the new Millennium we need to rethink how we approach education. Specifically he seems to be upset by the way we seperate humanities education from technology education, and suggests that this cannot go on. To some extent I see his point, but I’m less convinced that this is as big a problem as he thinks. I somehow believe the most people have coping mechanisms and very few are so focused on their own area that they can’t understand others. While perhaps we need more of a balance, I’m not yet convinced this is as huge a problem as he makes it out to be.
