What People will do for Money

from the greed dept

Two random articles that struck me as an interesting sign of the times. The first was an article about a company that will give you a discount if you give up the email addresses of your friends. To me this is completely obnoxious. They claim they are different from spam, but I don’t believe them. The other article is about iWon.com which has been receiving a ton of press coverage in the past couple of weeks, but I’ve been avoiding it. This is the portal that is paying out $10,000 a day to lucky winners who surf its site. I agree with the folks who question its chances for long term viability. I guess it’s a good advertising gimmick, but how long do gimmicks last? Both of these, show, however, that greed is quite a motivating factor these days.
