Amazon to Buy Beyond?

If I had to take a guess, I’d say this is unlikely, but plenty of investors seem to disagree. Beyond.com’s stock was pushed way up today on rumors that Amazon.com will purchase them tomorrow. It certainly could happen, and Amazon announced that they had a “big” announcement tomorrow and then pulled a press release about the announcement. Makes you wonder. However, if they wanted to get into software there are plenty of ways for them to do so that would be much easier than buying a company like Beyond.
