It's coffee, not anything special. The shop needs to get over itself.
And it's not about the customer being wrong or right; it's about the hopped-up cashier ("barista," please) being a condescending jerk about the whole thing.
I remember using NAPS at the last tiny paper I worked at. We had to use it for filler for all those crap special sections advertising would sell that we didn't have enough editorial staff to generate real content for. Some of those special sections were actually all ads with the "news hole" filled entirely with NAPS advertorial content.
They operate where they live, and their jurisdiction doesn't have laws paid for by the corporate lobbyists. Just because their country doesn't have the laws you'd prefer does not necessarily make it "illegitimate."
And you apparently don't understand the difference between intellectual and physical property to use your furniture analogy. Since when could we make infinite, perfect copies of furniture for free? Your example is nonsense.

If it's not yours and you sell it, it's stolen at that point.
If only Kurt Greenbaum had picked a judge to mess with.
It's over now
Ted Rall found his way off dailycartoonist.com, comment threads everywhere are doomed.
Sigh.
Apparently they don't worry about anyone locally calling bullshit on their little anti-competitive scam as long as it's "FOR THE CHILDREN."

Re: Re: If only
Actually, I'd just be better able to skip over the easily-insulted jackasses. :D
If only
If only I could killfile trolls in this commenting system. I miss killfiles.
Re: Re: Compelled speech?

Sneeje
I take it you've not spent much time at theagitator.com, injusticeeverywhere.com or carlosmiller.com then.
There's no fancy equipment in the van
Just some chap with a sonic screwdriver.
Nice site (gamesindustry.biz)... can't even see comments unless you register? Fail.
Who do these guys think they are? Dethklok?
What? They didn't just do the simple thing like here in Indiana and just not let mere citizens in with cellphones at all?

Even worse
Forget about XKCD (well, don't really); this is how the Cylons hack in and shut down all our cars, leaving us defenseless.
