Must be Jon Taplin asshurt that his statement regarding "Marty Scorsese" is holding little to no water.
He may have known that taking this to trial was not going to make it any easier. There's been a few piracy cases that went to trial and the defendant ended up getting screwed pretty badly, maybe he thought settling was the easier way to do things.
Either way, the 3 years of supervised release shows a certain lack of foresight by the court as electronics are becoming a mandatory part of work and everyday life. He's better off staying in a cave for that term then trying to eke out a living.
I'm gonna go ahead and channel OOTB...
"Mike, you and your goon squad of pirateers are all for pirating pirate stuff away from content creators! It's immoral to deprive copyright holders of those sweet sweet green abstractions...but also, this is the law and it's impeding on the rights of public is perfectly fine too!
In other words, whatever argument helps further my ego crusade!"
The apocalypse is NIGH...Bob just made a joke.
There's only one man who can lead these officers...
Steven Seagal.
Facebook should just invest in making real-life web bots that go out and take pictures in different stores...I mean, it worked for their ad system.

Good point.
A lot of companies build their businesses on infrastructure provided by tech companies.
Maybe Hollywood needs to take a cue.
"corporations have YOUR best interest in their grasping minds"
It's pretty naive to believe this, and it's even more naive to assume everyone here believes this.
Google is a corporation, they look out for their own interests, that's their prerogative.
What bothers some people here at Techdirt, OOTB, is when this prerogative interferes with people's lives and liberties.
Cats are the worst. I remember reading an article that said they'll tune their "meow" to the same frequency of an infant's crying (if you have one) so that you'll pay attention to them.
The difference is, the corporate elite see a decrease of 1% in their annual incomes.
The people on the other side of the class divide crumble under the weight of excessive debt.
OOTB, I know you're being your general, sardonic self, and I do appreciate that since it really helps brings in the views these articles, but unfortunately the more people that see that Gawker article, the less likely they are to buy her drivel.
I was being e-adulterous to Techdirt and discussing this issue on another website, but one thing came up in the conversation and I wasn't sure if it was ever addressed, but do they know how much she actually shared these files?
I mean can they put a number to the people who downloaded the bits of information from her seeding?
It's funny because if you look at the comments, the public discussion seems to center more on how terrible she sounds as opposed to the litigation used against Gawker.
I'm all for pretentious young movie stars ruining their reputations in this manner.
"Now, fuck off."
OOTB doesn't have time for that!
Do you have any idea how long it takes for him to gather strands of Masnick's hair for his doll?
Did anyone else visualize Brois raising his cane to emphasize certain words while he was dictating his thoughts?
I was just going to mention technical writing. A friend of mine freelances that as a living and makes decent money.
Careful! The thought police may brand you as immoral and a sociopath for that kind of thinking.

I think piracy is still an issue, but it's a minor one among a myriad of other problems the record labels have.
The only difference is that it's one they can lazily address with loaded language.
I read Nutella and my thought process went like this:
Nutella - Economy size Nutella form Costco - Nectar of the gods - sugar coma.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:
True that, and Hollywood even threatens the business models of other companies to get what they want.
