Machines That Feel Your Pain
from the a-Senator-of-Pain dept
I think it’s cool that a bunch of people can fly off to some conference somewhere and officially tell their friends and family that they’re going to the World Congress on Pain. It sounds like the type of thing that evil supervillains attend in planning out their next evil plot. Instead, it seems the biggest topic of debate is whether or not people can create useful “pain monitors” that can scan patients’ brains to see how bad the pain really is. Right now doctors rely on the obviously biased method of “where and how much does it hurt?”. However, some believe that with brain scans they can better identify where the pain really is and how bad it is. Some, however, are afraid that by relying too much on the technology doctors will miss other vital clues.
