Jack Welch's Old School Lessons

from the it's-all-about-the-people dept

An interview with Jack Welch where he points out the differences between GE and a Silicon Valley culture. The big one is loyalty and keeping good people around. In Silicon Valley people jump companies every couple of years – which he thinks is problematic. He understands why it happens, but says really great companies need to grow leaders inside who are loyal and can help build the company. There are clearly advantages (and disadvantages) to each method, but I think people in Silicon Valley often don’t pay enough attention to the people, and instead just concentrate on “warm bodies”.
