Two Interesting Tech Deals
from the catching-up dept
Two very interesting technology deals went through last week that weren't mentioned here due to the tragic events. Here's a quick catch up. American Greetings took Blue Mountain Arts off of the nearly bankrupt hands of Excite@Home for $35 million. It really was not that long ago that Excite@Home paide $780 million for the site - which never had a clear plan to make money. And people wonder why Excite@Home is in trouble? The other, more interesting deal was AskJeeves buying Teoma. We've spoken about Teoma before, as a potential competitor to Google - so it will be interesting to see what they do as part of a larger company. AskJeeves says they'll integrate Teoma's technology, while leaving it as a stand alone search site as well (I wonder how long that will last?). Hopefully this will mean that AskJeeves' searches will actually be useful. I have yet to ever use AskJeeves and find what I was looking for.
