Nissan vs. Nissan

from the give-me-that-domain dept

A battle is on for the Nissan.com domain name. The car company wants it, but the owner is a guy named Uzi Nissan who runs a small business called Nissan Computing. It seems that both parties have a legitimate claim to the name. What's amusing is that Uzi Nissan is trying to use past Nissan legal arguments against them. Nearly a decade ago there was a legal fight between Nissan and a computer company over the name "Altima" where Nissan claimed that since cars and computers were completely different, the trademark on Altima didn't apply to cars. Looks like that could come back to haunt them.

I'm sure big corporate interests will win over this 'serf's' business, of course.

Doesn't it always work that way?
