"it is only a minute percentage of people that follow the religion that share those views."
I would say they do not follow Islam at all. I would say they have perverted Islam into something else to justify their actions.
I guess you have no complaints about the NSA then?
"See how easy it is to build up a hate argument, as shallow and false as it may be."
As a Catholic from Northern Ireland I know all about this. I know how Catholics were treated in the 60s and 70s. This is why I feel sympathy towards the millions of innocent Muslims across the world.
One could also say that when the founding fathers devised the 2nd amendment, they had no idea what weapons would exist over 200 years later.
We cannot pick and choose to whom freedoms apply. They either apply to everyone or to no one.
Because all Muslims are extremists, right? How would you feel if you were kept under constant surveillance because a few far right nuts got together and formed militia groups that targeted civilians?
At least these artists are using a bit of common sense and blaming the record labels for poor royalties rather than Spotify.
Still, it does seem pretty frivolous as the artists would have negotiated and agreed the rates when they signed their souls away in the record deals.
Fruits and vegetables always taste better when you grow them yourself. We grew tomatoes, peas, beans, strawberries and more this year and they were much more tasty than anything you buy in a supermarket. Anyone who has the time should do this as it will give them a whole new appreciation for fruit and vegetables.
In trouble with the law for being stupid.
How is the entire Tea party not in trouble?
Psyche Test: "Is it ever OK to sacrifice the few to save the many?"
OOTB: "Yes, yes, yes"
That's a fail.
"The fact of the matter is there's a relationship between price and sales."
Good God man, don't confuse him with basic economics.
Wasn't it the creators who decided this was it? I think it is more likely that they felt that they had gone as far as they could with the show and decided to end it before it became stale and repetitive. Far too many shows go on for far too long and they lose a certain je ne sais quoi along the way and their legacy is forever tarnished. That will not be the case with Breaking Bad.
The man who created the show and helped make it popular?
Or the organisation that makes money off other people's work?
MMMMmmmm, tough choice. NOT!
I do not trust any US hosted VPN or email service no matter how secure they claim to be. I suspect many living in Europe feel the same way.
"I am not yet convinced that lobbyists are 'good' in any way."
Even the charities who bring their interests to government? They are lobbyists.
What about the people who start petitions for a cause and bring those to governments? They are lobbyists too.
There is more to lobbying than corporate lobbying and I really wish people would remember this.
Why is it that when people think of lobbying, they only think of corporate lobbying? Lobbying is not an inherent evil because it allows for all people/special interest groups to have a say in policy making. If lobbying were banned, what would happen to all the charities who interact with government every day? The activists who bring petitions to their representatives everyday?
Here in the UK we have a really bad piece of legislation on the go that has been suitably dubbed the 'Gagging Bill' that seeks to seriously limit the power of ordinary people to influence government.
Of course, corporate lobbying has got out of hand with companies spending eye watering amounts on lobbying efforts. This should be drastically curbed but NOT at the expense of the public and special interest groups.
"What isn't addressed in Byrne's article is that Spotify actually provides income as opposed to piracy. How many Spotify listeners are former pirates?"
And how many go on to purchase the music on vinyl, CD or download after they decide whether or not they like it?
What I don't get is where the fuck piracy comes into this. The Lavabit story has fuck all to do with piracy.
Never, it is much easier to blame everyone else than it is to fully evaluate what they are doing wrong and how to improve.
If ever there was proof that intellectual property is anti innovation, this is it.
