    The Soultion

I've always felt that the solution to this rule is to get another company to pass the same law as France, but have it legal for only a month, then arrange to send a request to Google for the politician above the data protection regulator to be 'forgotten' for a bit. Preferably in election season. :)

Re: Re: THE PRESENT SYSTEM WORKS!

Here, here! I don't care about competition in the cel phone carriers and don't want to pay for it! If new companies can't stand up to the oligarchy of Bell, Rogers and Telus, then too bad for them!

    [/sarcasm]

Hollywood has a pile of money, Canada has very little. In order for, say, your Friendly Giants, Fraggle Rocks, or Corner Gas's to get off the ground, there needs to be some seed money there. Do you think L.A. would have ever funded Corner Gas, despite it turning into an international hit?

Ah, but it also gave us Great Big Sea, the Arrogant Worms, Barenaked Ladies, Bif Naked, Rush, The Tragically Hip, Celine Dion...OK, we're sorry about that last one too.

(And for comedians...SCTV by itself: John Candy, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, Dave Thomas, Harold Ramis...)

I personally was pulling for Monsanto as well, but I think Comcast won for two reasons. One, more technical people (the people more likely to vote in Consumerist's polls) have to deal directly with them. Two, there's an argument that while Monsanto is trying to control food (globally), Comcast is trying to control information (in the US).

Still, I think if Consumerist had a greater percentage of global readers, they could have snuck in there. (If Consumerist was Canadian, I think Rogers would be a lock for the final four...)

See, I'd think you used to make fun of Batman, Mark...

As a Canadian, I'd like to note that CSIS seems to be doing all the things that the NSA is up to, but seem to be better about keeping it quiet. Then again, we've got "peace, order and good government" instead of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," so maybe we're just better as a country with dealing about giving up liberty for order. I hope not. :/
