    Re:

As an ex record company exec (in charge of digital strategy) I can confirm that this frustration continues in-house, too. Territorial release schedules are usually organised to allow the artist to promote the product effectively with live appearances and press etc. They can't be everywhere at the same time, so the release is staggered across multiple territories, thus maximising exposure that involves the actual artist. It's frustrating, but it's one element of promotion that can't be avoided....

    Owning language

Thank goodness Apple is incorporating proximity payment technology in next gen. iPhones. I will be able to pay promptly when I use their proprietary language in the future. I didn't need all those words, anyway. I'm just glad the larger corporations are taking vocabulary in hand and allowing us to pay when we infringe upon their justifiably owned IP. Phew!

    Is Touring Enough?

I'm an ex recording artist who ended up doing a long stint at a major record company as a senior executive (responsible for new tech strategy across Europe). I just wanted to add that yes, of course touring can be a major tent pole in generating revenue, but by no means is it a solution for all musicians.

I made dance music for many years and sometimes played to tens of thousands of people, but usually in the context of dance parties/raves etc. There is a huge contingent of musicians out there that make great recordings, but are way more capable in the studio than on a stage. We need models that can cater for these people. Great music can't always tour easily and translate to the live circuit.
