  • Lily Allen: It's Ok To Sell My Counterfeit CDs, Just Don't Give My Music For Free

    Henry Emrich ( profile ), 20 Nov, 2009 @ 08:22pm

    I have a great idea!

Lily will probably totally dig this idea:

    1. Let's all burn Lily Allen CD's, and sell them for a dollar.

    2. People can buy them, get together, and we can have fun destroying the Lily Allen CD's, as a protest of how completely and utterly insane she is.

    3. The money we raise from making the CD's gets split down the middle, with you keeping half, and the other half donated to your local Pirate Party.

    Everybody wins:

    1. Lily Allen wins because she gets to see people paying somebody OTHER than her, but at least they're "placing value in her music".

    2. The CD-burner person wins because they make money off of it (and we all know the *only* acceptable measure of value is if money changes hands, according to these type people).

3 The various Pirate Parties get funding, so they can help to explain how stupid runaway IP laws have become.

    4. Best of all, Lily Allen gets to look stupid -- yet again.

Does this sound like a good idea, or not?

Don't waste your time with a2f2a

    It's basically a major-label front operation:

Two of the biggest "contributors" there are Billy Bragg (board member of FAC), and Indiana Gregg (self-proclaimed "anti-piracy activist".) Jon newton (who, ironically enough, also runs p2pnet.net (a p2p-related news portal), is either a dupe, or has been "bought off" in some way.

of course you couldn't get your point across. Neither could I, because Bragg & Co. simply don't want to learn anything.

A2f2a (and p2pnet) are a total waste of effort, as I learned the hard way.

  • Carly Simon Sues Starbucks For Not Promoting Her Album Enough

    Carly WHO?

Joking -- I know who Carly Simon is. :)

But, that's not to say that *everybody* who walks into Starbucks knows who she is, or cares, for that matter.

Another thing that would help to know is the song-list from the album itself. Too many "big-name" types have been in their insulated little celebrity bubble for so long that they just figure people should be falling all over themselves to buy their latest stuff whatever it is.

Additionally, who's to say that just because you might like Carly Simon's *earlier* stuff, you'll inevitably like what she did, now? Not every Beatles fan is a Wings fan, so just because you did something cool *once* doesn't automatically translate into some Borg collective that's automatically guaranteed to buy your stuff just because it's *you*.

I'd be more likely to believe Carly's side of the story if I heard something off the album, so as to judge whether it's actually good or not.

    "Masnick has no Moral compass?"
And I bet he has the dead girl-scouts in his basement to prove it, too. :)

  • Billy Bragg's Backwards Approach To Helping Artists

nteresting conversation with Billy and Jon from P2Pnet.net

    I agree:

It's really "interesting" to watch Bragg tell all of us that the FAC vote supporting 3-strikes and throttling was a "stand against the labels". Giving the other side *exactly* what they wanted isn't any kind of "stand".

As to the other poster talking about how Bragg's supposedly a "socialist" -- would a "socialist" be bleating like a scalded calf when he doesn't get paid?

Bragg is a lap-dog for the multi-national corporate oligarchy masquerading as a "music industry", who just *happens* to use Communist/socialist inspired imagery as a marketing ploy.
And if you don't think capitalism involves government intervention, I have two words for you: "corporate personhood".
