    Odd punitive damages.

From one of the linked articles it mentions that he was "fined $100 US for each of the 4,366,386 spam messages that were posted onto Facebook profiles in March and April 2008." It also mentions that after "punitive damages" and some astronomical exchange rate apparently he owes $1,068,928,721.46. I think this is more political pandering than anything. Yes, spam is annoying, but a $1B worth?

    Blacklist

I know a Blacklist isn't always the best way to keep people out of sites, but it's effective for the general public. I assumed that's what they did anyway for a few obvious reasons, one of them being open viewing of pornography. I guess the store manager hasn't figured out all of the settings on the wireless router yet.

    Huh?

I live in Louisiana and really don't know why they're wasting our money with this. I don't remember anything that has happened in the last few years that a "virtual street-level map" would have made worst...
One way or the other, they'll have to prove that the person used the map for their particular burglary. Along with the fact that most people (well, I hope most) know that the images are old and most-likely a lot has changed in the area they are looking at.
I wish they'd stop wasting tax dollars on passing junk like this and get to passing real legislation that will actually help the average person.

    Read the Patent

They basically patented what Microsoft Word's word replacement feature has been doing for years. I guess they're making a more universal database so APIs can call the database for the change? My instant messengers have always done this for me. Not sure how this is new technology.

Re: Er, are they kinda insane?

I was thinking the same DH. They complained because there was no comment on the first article... then didn't give a decent comment when asked. Big corp. doesn't like to be written about without a chance to rebuttal... but once the details are out in the open... they have nothing to say. Too bad. Verizon has a lot going for them with AT&T's issues here in the South. I was thinking of switching to them at the end of next year, but that has gone out the window since seeing these kinds of stories pop up.

    Been Done

Didn't some computer companies in the 90's do this? You got a free PC, but so much of your desktop was ad space. Something to that nature.

Not a new idea at all.
