Re: It's sometimes a politician's job to say stupid things

Maybe he is worried that the Taliban with their known love of western style entertainment, will play the game and learn from a game the methods and capabilities of the western forces lots of info that they don't have from taking them on in real life.

Does no one, seriously, have any issues with making a game of an actual current conflict.
When kids are playing cowboys and indians they aren't relating the game to actual people.
When we play games with Nazis or Soviets as the enemy, well they aren't actually around anymore, there isn't a real conflict now.
This is a real thing, really happening, to hell with the fact that you can play the opposing side is it not wrong to be making a game out of this in the first place.
Is it not at the very least distasteful, disrespectful of people's lives and tacky in the extreme.

"So stating that there was less specific R&D on genes from a group not tasked with doing such R&D is meaningless.."

Yes it would be, but that wasn't what was stated.
What was stated was that there was less research by anyone at all on genes that had been patented, however briefly, than on those which were not.

    cyberterrorism AND evil wizards

You give a lot less attention to actions being taken by companies on behalf of the US government to target and defend against the threat caused by evil wizards.
But if you did start picking on those companies in the same manner as you pick on Booz Allen and the cyberterrorism threat, it is also something you should take on faith alone that the threat identified by the US government and the companies involved is real.
It's just that no evidence can be presented to prove it, but we can surely take it on trust that they do actually have the evidence and so you don't know nothing and shouldn't talk or write 'bout such stuff that you don't know anything about.
Evil Wizards COULD be exploited to attack your nations' interests. To what end, I don't know, but....
shoot did someone else write this asinine stuff.

  • Why Is UNESCO Supporting Locking Up Information?

Way to miss the point people.
Whether you are in favour of enforcing copyright to the nth degree or not, the question is what the heck has it to do with UNESCO.
On the face of it, a body, the point of which is to encourage international collaboration on reasearch amongst other things has no obvious hook to any anti-piracy activism.
