  • Jeffrey Katzenberg's Ego Decides That COVID-19 Must Be Why Quibi Totally Sucks And No One Wants It

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 13 May, 2020 @ 08:42am

    Re: Re:

I think you found the secret, Quibi is a remake of The Producers. Seriously, after a decade of streaming video services starting one this inept speaks of either cluelessness or duplicity, although the recent events at the remains of Gawker show cluelessness is a possibility.
To blame a worldwide "stay at home and watch TV" order for the failure of a streaming service is like blaming the Obama administration for the failure of your gun business, or blaming summer for slow air conditioner sales.

  • Robyn Openshaw, 'The Green Smoothie Girl,' Threatening SLAPP Suits Over Mediocre Reviews

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 15 Dec, 2019 @ 10:15am

Does any of Openshaw's behavior violate Facebook TOS, or constitute a basis for a civil suit? Seems like sending extravagant threats and maliciously reporting critics to FB should be grounds for a permanent FB ban, and maybe extortion charges.
As for the claimed benefits of "green smoothie" I rank it as goop wannabe and something Derek Lowe could demolish in a single paragraph.

  • Federal Judge Asks DEA To Explain Why All 179 Of Its Stash House Sting Targets Are Minorities

These imaginary drug stashes would make excellent targets for real SWAT teams.

  • Should Doxxing Be Illegal?

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 14 Nov, 2019 @ 02:59pm

This sounds a lot like revenge porn laws, which flagrantly trample the first amendment. No good will come of an anti doxxing law because like criminal defamation it will be perverted int another tool for the powerful to punish critics.

  • Too Many Streaming Exclusives Is Already Starting To Piss Users Off

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 09 Nov, 2019 @ 03:17pm

What the executives seeking a bigger piece of pie by setting up exclusive streaming don't seem to realize it there are two pies, the revenue pie and the consumer expenditure pie. I allocate a fixed amount of money to streaming services, and I have already decided I can live without exclusive content that exceeds that cap. If I am the majority and gotta have its are the minority, revenue will fail to meet expectations and executives will be whining about piracy because admitting nobody wants their products is inconceivable.

  • Schools Are Using 'Aggression Detecting' Mics That Are Set Off By Coughing, Slamming Locker Doors To Head Off The Next School Shooting

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 03 Jul, 2019 @ 09:48am

So future mass shooters just have to add speak quietly to their checklist along with acquire guns and ammunition 6 months in advance. Also as with Shotspotter, create diversionary noises to send the school resource officer on a snipe hunt.
If you want to really get diabolical, create audio of a fake shooting to trigger an evacuation or lockdown then take advantage of it.

  • Caterpillar Inc. Bullies Cat And Cloud Coffee Shop Over Its Store's Apparel

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 05 Jun, 2019 @ 01:21pm

They used to have more of a sense of proportion back in the 80s when Earthworm Tractor had Raterpillar as a joke trademark. Also the bit about Caterpillar being concerned about entering the clothing market strikes me as BS since Caterpillar brand boots and work wear have been around for years. Also how do you confuse a feline with an insect larva?

  • If 'Big Tech' Is a Huge Antitrust Problem, Why Are We Ignoring Telecom?

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 04 Jun, 2019 @ 09:22am

Because, septuagenarian Congress critters who have had their snouts buried in AT&T and Verizon's trough for decades can't imagine biting the hand that feeds them and can't understand Google and Facebook so they do what their lobbyist patrons tell them to get face time on TV and dollars in their reelection fund. Or to put it another way, social media companies don't own enough Congress critters and Verizon owns the FCC

  • Stupid Battle Over YouTube Subcribers Now Includes A Takedown Order From A Court In India

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 15 Apr, 2019 @ 08:00am

Reason number 732 for never subscribing to PewDiePie, asinine diss tracks. Actually I've made a point of never watching PewDiePie, since I don't consider his garbage worth viewing.
As for the early comment about piracy and quality, the combination of blockbuster mentality, monopoly arrogance, and least common denominator programming means I consider a great deal of the RIAA and MPAA's output to be so crappy it's not even worth stealing. I haven't watched network television in years and don't miss it
There is quality entertainment out there and most of my YouTube viewing is Patreon supported channels because they deliver as promised.

  • Ironically, Too Many Video Streaming Choices May Drive Users Back To Piracy

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 07 Apr, 2019 @ 08:26am

A plague on both your houses

What about the people who just say I won't watch your stuff if you make it cost extra? When we had cable we used to watch a lot of Discovery and HGTV. Then I got a Roku and dropped cable. Now when I try to watch a Discovery channel show that interests me I get sent off to "activate my device" then get told it's not available so I say sod you I can live without Dave Turin. The same thing happened with HGTV, tried to "activate", got an error. So I'm not watching their shows, not watching their advertising (a necessary evil) and not even going to bother pirating so they won't get word of mouth out of me either. When Disney pulls Star Wars from Netflix, I won't sign up for Disney, I will just stop caring about Star Wars. I dropped cable to save money, and because I was tired of subsidizing channels I disliked. I am not going to keep stacking streaming services.
Case in point, to watch all of the Doctor Blake Mysteries took Netflix and Britbox for the regular seasons, plus Vudu for the finale, that's no way to run a railroad.

  • Stupid Law Making Assaulting Journalists A Federal Crime Revived By Congress

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 28 Mar, 2019 @ 08:09am

It's interesting that the Twitter inanity is coming from Eric Swalwell, most recently famous for wanting to nuke gun owners. Apparently Rep. Swalwell's Dunning-Kruger extends to the 1st Amendment, as well as the 2nd.
This feels like a muddled mix of anti Trump virtue signaling and backdoor press restrictions.

  • AT&T Attempts A Head Fake With 'Fake 5G'

Response to: Anonymous Coward on Jan 2nd, 2019 @ 8:56am

The FTC has all the will and force of a jellyfish, don't expect them to save you.
I used to have an AT&T cell plan, but now I get my AT&T service from Straight Talk for half the price, thus using one evil empire to shaft another.

  • FCC Says It Will Finally Investigate Nation's Bullshit Broadband Availability Maps. Maybe.

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 14 Dec, 2018 @ 08:36am

    Declare darkness the new standard

As soon as I saw the headline about broadband maps I thought of the old Microsoft light bulb joke. With Ajit Pai, I expect the same behavior, or based on past performance I expect Verizon and AT&T to be in charge of the maps.

  • If You're Worried About Bad EU Internet Regulation, Just Wait Until You See The New Terrorist Regulation

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 13 Dec, 2018 @ 10:32am

I expect the EU to demand even more

Since they believe tech companies can do whatever they decree the next revision will require the use of time travel to delete postings 3 hours into the past.

  • Microsoft Posts List Of Facial Recognition Tech Guidelines It Thinks The Government Should Make Mandatory

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 11 Dec, 2018 @ 12:23pm

    Time for countermeasures

My immediate response was to look up Juggalo makeup since it's very effective at thwarting facial recognition. Unfortunately the Juggalo are a "hybrid gang" according to the FBI, so maybe a Guy Fawkes mask is the answer.

  • ESPN Has Lost 14 Million Viewers In 7 Years Thanks To Cord Cutting

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 29 Nov, 2018 @ 12:40pm

ESPN is a reason why I cut the cord

When I cancelled cable I specifically told the company I was tired of paying for 7 ESPN channels and I disapproved of the NFL's political antics. I also saved $100 a month and get most of what I want on my Roku.

  • The Girl Scouts Sues The Boy Scouts Over Trademark

    slowjoecrow ( profile ), 14 Nov, 2018 @ 09:29am

    Consider alternatives

Maybe the BSA should rebrand as the Young Pioneers, it's gender neutral and I think the trademarks are available
