That doesn't mean, of course, that big government doesn't like back doors (pun intended), though.
Ok I've avoided saying this for some time, for obvious reasons, but I work in the Navy in the Intel circles. (no really I do)
That being said, you're full of shit.
It's nice to know that even some lawyers don't like lawyers!
:D
Well done, sir. You have just opened, and spilled on the table, the whole can of worms against copyright in general.
Meaning, your points are EXACTLY why most of us don't even like copyright to begin with.
Example: (true story) In high school I had to do a paper about cartography. I had an idea for an absolutely awesome opening line "In the beginning, there were maps." My teacher loved it, but then asked why there was no reference footnote.... That line was used in one of my research books, and even though I really did think of it on my own, I had to reference it because of -- wait for it -- copyright.
"most people who own a car do not need to be attempting to work on it themselves"
Didn't grow up in the 70's/80's did ya?
All I know is that with most cars (maybe not the ones made in the past two years or so) you can simply go to an auto parts store and ask to use their computer reader. Some will do it for you, others will let you do it yourself; either way, it's free.
All hail obscure movie quotes!!
A couple years ago, you may have seen the Mythbusters episode regarding distracted driving. They confirmed that being distracted by a phone call is actually WORSE than driving at the legal BAC. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it because Adam and Kari actually get drunk!
actually the 21 drinking age stems from something about PHYSICAL maturity. That's not how it's applied anymore, but that's where it originates.
Clarification: Who honestly thinks it's acceptable to, not just look down for a moment, but actually divert your attention to something that has nothing to do with driving?
IM-not so-HO, anyone caught doing that should be tried for attempted manslaughter!
As of July 1st, on Oahu you will not be allowed to do anything on your phone if it is not hands-free. I do find it interesting, though, that ANY such law has to specifically include playing video games.
Honestly, who the fuck is stupid enough to think that playing a video game while driving is safe??
yes, but if artists start taking that attitude, the question then becomes "How do their LAWYERS make money?"
Wait wait wait wait wait wait WAIT!
You're describing capitalism, there, bub. We can't have that in this country.
With all this big government and sue-happy companies, I find myself wondering:
whatever happened to "buyer beware"?
That sort of thing seems to be happening more and more. I remember when EA games bought out Westwood studios, and disperssed them, then tried to make a C&C game (Generals), that ended up just plain sucking ass (and not in a good way). A lot of big-wigs in the software industry seem to simply be all about getting on the "band-wagon".
Reminds me of the scene in the movie "Big" where the corporate guy has a "great idea" to market a transformer that turns into a building...
Oddly enough, that's the way things USED to be. When it became more profitable (and, more importantly, possible) in the short term to just sue a person's entire blood heritage for everything they were ever worth is when things went south.
On the count of "Sue"
