Seriously, if just keeping track of paid political ads is too complicated, and then they have to do it for all content?
"there is no potential customer confusion over which to be concerned"
There's no potential for confusion because there's no potential for anyone to know or care who this guy is.
No, because Verizon is not a government entity. A school is.
How the fuck is this not a major HIPAA violation?
Politicians aren't exactly an unbiased sample though. The job attracts the power hungry. The meek may inherit the earth, but not any positions in politics.
Agreed, this plan is how to cause more piracy, not less.
Because of Article 11, even the links themselves, not just the snippets from the articles, are subject to fees/licensing. So, they won't even be able to just list the EU news sites in alphabetic order without paying them, and nothing in the language would imply that this only applies to just the article endpoints and not also the root of their site.
But under article 13, you won't be able to post your video just because the game company just "allows" it. YouTube would need to explicitly get a license from that particular game company and have some one explicitly verify that all the game footage in your video is from companies they have a license for before allowing you to post it or else risk massive fines. So, given the rate of videos being uploaded to Youtube, they should be able to have your new video approved for posting some time in the year 2384.
I just mean that the UK not being in the EU might save them from getting geoblocked by the rest of the world.
Why not, if the UK isn't a part of the EU, then sites hosted outside the EU won't have to geoblock them.
I wonder if this could end up making the UK glad for Brexit.
The "Affordable Care Act" has a lot better reputation than "Obamacare".
Making people feel better about it exactly what they're aiming at.
Man, for an automated system, it seems to be reeaaallly good at recognizing and flagging you. It must be some kinda next level AI to consistently recognize your posts and never seem to mistakenly flag anyone else's posts. Techdirt should sell this technology to Google or something so that they can improve their Content ID system.
If we could actually get real ballot reform, we should switch to a ranked automatic runoff voting system.
I've never seen some one before obsessed with such a tiny and specific conspiracy theory.
How do I vote this "LOL" like a dozen more times? XD
You know, I'm actually kinda okay with ruling by analogy. But you've got to have the right analogy. They want to make the claim that unopened emails are like letters abandoned at the post office. But that's not the right comparison at all. I can't open mail that's at the post office, I can't see if I have letters lying around at the post office waiting for me, I can't see who they're from or what the title at the top of the letter is.
Unopened emails are more like the pile of unopened mail on my dinning table. Hell, what's the "bin" called where unopened mail sits in an email client: Inbox. Not POBox, not Mailbox; INBOX. Like those little trays you'd have on your desk at home or work.
Just because you can do something, doesn't mean it's a good idea. It's quite possible that you pulling down the ad will do more to further the goal taking down your website than the ad on its own ever could. Especially if your website is supposedly dedicated to and used for communication.

They also released the actual footage submitted into evidence as proof of Manning and Assange hacking with their specialized software:
