@global, standards to get lowered, but also get raised. So we lower the standards for knowing cursive, but we also raise the standards for understanding computers. In todays world, I'd say understanding the latter is a bit more important for kids.
My wife is a teacher and I've witnessed some of the most heated arguments happen over computers and software that other teachers don't understand and or don't want to understand. Couple more generations and it won't be an issue.
