  • Metallica Still Doesn't Get It: Forces Early Reviews Of Latest Album Offline

    Makes no sense

The entire stunt makes no sense. You invite journalists to get publicity. Then when you get it, you want them to take it down? Why even invite them in the first place? Makes no sense at all.

  • Reputation Is A Scarce Good… As Metallica Is Learning

    ScytheNoire ( profile ), 30 May, 2008 @ 09:01am

    Screw the whole music industry

I grew up on Metallica. I had all their tapes, and then when CD's came out, got all their CD's, and even some DVD's. I had a whole bunch of shirts, used to try to collect them all. I was a total metal head, and Metallica were my gods.

Then came them trying to destroy new technology and being pawns of the music industry. That was the end of my relationship with Metallica. Done and over with.

But it wasn't just Metallica I wrote off, but the entire music industry, all music. The entire industry just disgusts me, as it continuously lies about the artists and writers not getting their fair share, but it's always been like that, because it's always been the corporations that got the majority of the money. And then they waste that money on crap like Michael Jackson and other pop losers, not to mention all the lawyers they waste money on, and it just makes you not want to fund a terrorist organization like the music industry.

The toughest thing to get back when it's been damaged is the reputation. Even people who have been falsely accused of things have had reputations that were damaged forever.

  • Supreme Court Says Telling People You Have Child Porn Is Illegal… Even If You Don't Have It

    ScytheNoire ( profile ), 22 May, 2008 @ 05:43am

    What about the law?

What happens when "the law" (law enforcement) goes using honeypots to try to catch people? Wouldn't that now be illegal?

Child porn and pedophilia is f**ked up, but they always go about things the wrong way. Education, educating children, and harsh prosecution of actual criminals is the way to combat this. (Actual, as in teens screwing other teens and getting labeled pedophiles, and thousands of other false cases of pedophilia labeling)

Just the government doing it's job once again to do nothing to get the job done while screwing things up more.

  • Canadian Regulators Won't Stop Bell Canada's Traffic Shaping

    ScytheNoire ( profile ), 15 May, 2008 @ 08:45am

This just pisses me off. I left Bell when they started throttling, then a few months later they strike again by screwing with every one. It's so wrong and anti-competitive.

  • EA Backs Down On Controversial DRM

    ScytheNoire ( profile ), 12 May, 2008 @ 03:20am

    Still using SecuROM

The major issue is that they are still using SecuROM. Therefore, people should still avoid buying it, as SecuROM has a history of not working properly and damaging computers.

Fact is that no DRM works, no DRM stops piracy, and it only hurts the legit paying customer.

Also, SteveD needs to do a little more truth searching and stop believing what companies say, as they have another agenda. Everything he mentions is not true, and mostly made up of partial truths.

Look at World of Warcraft, the most popular PC game, that still sells, and on top of everything else, gets people to pay $15 a month for it.

The issue here is that the PC game market has evolved, yet, PC game companies have no evolved as quickly. They are clinging onto old business models that don't work. They need to adapt and change to the changing market. They need to make games that take advantage of what the PC has over the consoles, which is ease of online.

Also keep in mind the type of system you need to play most PC games. Crysis didn't sell has well because of the system requirements and that it's gameplay wasn't anything great. Call of Duty 4 didn't sell as well because it was seen as a console port. GTA4 won't sell as well on the PC either when it comes out in six months, because it too is just a console port, unless they change to make it better. And Epic's latest Unreal Tournament didn't sell as well because of both requirements and because they removed a lot of the modes players previously loved, not to mention it added nothing new over older versions.

So all those that SteveD mentions had other major flaws and piracy is used as an excuse for those companies own incompetence and failures.

    How to sell PC games:
    1) Online play that is massive
    2) Low system requirements but still looks good and scales well
    3) Isn't a console port
    4) Doesn't have DRM
    5) Isn't buggy and broken at release
    6) Adds something new to existing genres

PC gaming isn't dead, it isn't trouble for those companies who know how to use it. Sins of a Solar Empire sells great, and it uses no DRM. World of Warcraft sells phenomenally, and it uses no DRM and has a monthly fee. Warhammer Online pre-orders are insane, and it isn't even out for at least six months.

So learn about PC gaming before talking about it, because knowing the truth from corporate lies is very important, and never believe the crap you read from corporations with an agenda.

  • EA To Use Controversial Internet-Required DRM On New Games

    ScytheNoire ( profile ), 09 May, 2008 @ 03:32am

DRM only hurts the legit customers

This is about the biggest bonehead move they could have done. I remember fondly my first game that I purchased and couldn't play, Civilizations 3, because of the DRM on it. I had to go get the crack in order to even play the game. From then on, for every game that wouldn't work or required me to keep the disc in the drive, I got the crack for them. Companies are using piracy as an excuse, and there are those games with extremely low piracy rates, like World of Warcraft and other online games. So maybe that is a hint, make your games online and multiplayer, and then people have no choice. But as this is, it's a single player game forcing you to pretend it's multiplayer, and using a horrible method, SecureROM to do it. Just make the game online to begin with. Oh, wait, I guess that would kill all your console sales. Idiots.

    New Hero

Kurt needs to become a super hero and join the EFF and fight against the bully corporations that spend their time acting like mafia goons.

I absolutely loved the letter, and it only gets better the more you read. It would have been priceless to see the faces and comments in the law office that got that letter back, because they just got their asses handed to them.

I hope Kurt files a lawsuit back at Monster Cables and attacks them.

  • File Sharing Pre-Settlement Letters In Europe Get Lawyer Banned For Six Months

    ScytheNoire ( profile ), 07 Apr, 2008 @ 10:23pm

    Extortion Illegal?

I'm not shocked, as Europe seems to have more sense typically and less catering to lobbyists and corporations. It shouldn't come as any surprise, although I think lawyer extortion should be a much more seriously punishable crime, around the world, and include a life-time ban from practicing law. Lawyers, once upon a time, were known for having integrity and upholding the law. What happened to those days?

  • It's Good To Be A Monopoly: Bell Canada Tells ISPs To Shut Up And Accept Traffic Shaping

I left Bell DSL because they started traffic shaping, and went to another DSL, who said they would never have traffic shaping, TekSavvy. Now Bell is going to force traffic shaping onto them? This just f'in' pisses me off. Glad I got rid of Bell, but damn annoying they are pulling this crap. I hope the government steps in and spanks Bell, and takes away their monopoly.

    Hydrogen

Hydrogen is what they should be working on.

This increase in land cost though, it's gotta be all the fault of the RIAA and their lawsuits. I'm sure someone smart than I can spin that one and make up statistics to match, just like the RIAA does.

  • Once Again, Online Availability Doesn't Dampen Box Office For Simpsons Movie

    it's all about control

It's about controlling the content. They lack the control when it's online, even though it's a better form of delivery, cheaper for them, faster for the consumer, they don't know how to use the technology properly and are missing the boat, yet again, as they always seem to do when new technology emerges.

So of course they are wrong, they've been wrong every time in the past, but they can't see past their own bullshit and lies and will never admit the truth. Online "piracy" has only helped the industries, not hurt it. I know personally I have made purchases because of something I downloaded, many times. I would've never made those purchases had I not downloaded the content, that I would otherwise not have known about. But thanks to downloads, I've made those purchases.

Recent purchases for pre-release of Dexter (Season One Aug 21), Heroes (Season One Aug 28) and Robot Chicken (Season Two Sept 4) are all DVD's I wouldn't have been purchasing if I didn't get to download those TV Shows. But I either didn't get to watch them when they came out, or wouldn't even know about them, if I didn't get to download them. Thankfully, the download community let's you know what is good, and what is worth watching.

Funniest part, the industries use download statics to monitor and know what is popular and is doing well. They use it like Neilson ratings, and in fact, it's more useful, since it's real time and represents a wider audience. So funny they are using what they fight against as a marketing tool. Yet they'll never admit to it, they use third party companies to do their dirty work.

  • A Detailed Look At How Prince Embraces New Music Distribution Strategies

    ScytheNoire ( profile ), 23 Jul, 2007 @ 07:29am

    The music industry wrong?

My god, it's shocking, the concept that the music industry is wrong and has been lying this entire time. I personally am shocked by this. What a crazy concept.

    Sarcasm in full effect above.

As most musicians will admit, they make their money from concerts and sales at concerts, not from CD's sold by the music industry. Everything the music industry says is just to keep themselves alive, because they are now obsolete in many ways.

  • An Economic Explanation For Why DRM Cannot Open Up New Business Model Opportunities

    ScytheNoire ( profile ), 03 Mar, 2007 @ 12:20am

John B is so short sighted

I'm shocked how short sighted John B is, he sounds like the RIAA/MPAA is shoving money in his pockets to spew bullshit.

DRM adds no value to a product. Music industries were needed for distribution, but with the internet, and small file size of music, along with broadband, music labels are no longer needed to distribute music. Any one can distribute music.

Music labels used to promote bands, but now bands get better promotion by going online and advertising to their target community. Go to punk sites if you are punk, country sites if you are country.

There are still some hurdles, such as the corruption of the radio industry and the labels controlling what gets played, meaning the same boring crap gets played over and over. But this too is changing.

The music labels are no longer needed. It can all be done on their own. And if a band truly wants good promotion, they would go get a loan if needed, or get private investment, and then spend the money on an actual advertising firm to get true advertisement.

Same is going to be true for movies, the movie industry is going to no longer be needed. Internet speeds will get faster, making movies will get easier with technology, private investors and banks will fund projects worthy of funding, and advertising firms will advertise it.

I look at how popular "This film is not yet rated" was even when the MPAA tried to block it and stop it from reaching the public.

Fact is it's a new world for media, the MPAA and RIAA have fought against it, and they losing badly. They will die off because they refuse to change with technology and adapt. The future has no need for companies that try to control the content, as there are enough out there to make sure that the control thrives without control.

Good bye RIAA and MPAA, you will not be missed. You were too old, too slow, and too stupid to survive in the 21st century.

I think they could really take some lessons from the porn industry.

By the way, releasing music for free, as promotional for where artists make their real money, in concerts, is the most brilliant move. Too bad that just means cutting out the labels, because they just aren't needed.

  • Patent Trolls Foster Innovation?

    ScytheNoire ( profile ), 03 Mar, 2007 @ 12:02am

I'm shocked any one could make as stupid a statement as that IP lawyer. It's insanely not true, the patent system is killing technology and advancement, lawsuits are destroying America, and the DMCA has destroyed more things than they can even pretend it's helped.

Well, guess it just goes to show lawyers are the biggest liars on the planet and will tell you eating shit is healthy for you if it means they get paid for it.

  • Good News! Shoot 'Em Up Video Games Don't Make Us All Killers!

    Well Duh

How is this even news. Any psychologist worth a dollar can tell you that violence is instilled in someone at a young age from their parents and surroundings, and whether their life has value and meaning. someone who has nothing, no hope for a future, and is raised in a screwed up environment surrounded by drugs, alcohol and abuse, is going to end up screwed up and violent. Poverty and bad parenting is the cause of more violence than any video game in the history of video games. Religion is responsible for more violence than any video game.

I am going to patent stupidity, and then any one who does something stupid, i.e. against logical evidence, I will sue for a ton of money. Soon, stupidity shall be wiped out, and I will own the entire world.

Or we can just start shooting stupid illogical people and make the world a better place, one dead idiot at a time.

They need to run commercials stating how the RIAA/MPAA want to stop users from having rights with the content they have purchased. They need to better inform the public. And they need to add some family values bullshit to the bill, so that any one against this bill is against family values.
I hate that bullshit made-up term.

  • Republicans Forced To Retract Piracy Allegations They Lobbed At Democratic House Speaker

    ScytheNoire ( profile ), 27 Feb, 2007 @ 12:58am

They just need to abolish the party system and make it illegal for any politicians to receive political funds from any coporation or party that may have a political agenda. Also make lobbyists illegal, and punishable by death. Outlaw e-Voting machines that do not provide a paper trail, and all votes must be counted both electronically, and on paper. If the numbers don't match, recount until they do. All votes must be made public. Politicians caught on video lying, and can be proved, are to be shot on sight.

Just start killing off politicians and all lobbyists, it's a good start.

I'm shocked that a large group couldn't solve anything. Shocking.

The patent system doesn't work, so why even have it around any more. It's time has passed, it's no longer useful, it no longer works. It only holds back technology.
