  Well that's good, because have you seen the way they treat their employees? Pool tables, free cereal, $10,000 bonus for good ideas, etc. I wish my employer was that cool. Barring any huge mistakes, which so far doesn't seem likely, they are in a position to succeed where others have failed because of their openness and business model. I don't see public opinion turning anytime soon.
  
  But a decade or so from now, we'll have to see how things pan out.
  
  Personally, between technological innovation and business innovation we live in some exciting times. And companies like Google & Mozilla are poised to be the big winners if they play their cards right.

  Is this bad?

  If someone told me tomorrow that Google is starting its own country, I would be like, "Well that makes sense. Good for them." To me they define what a company should be.
  
  Interesting side note, I remember a time not too long ago when my brother had an extra credit question on a quiz that asked to list two search engines. Guess what, the teach counted Google.com wrong. If they have been able to go from search engine nothingness to major innovator in less than 10 years, what are they going to be in another 10-20 years.
  
  The last time we saw growth like this we got Micro$oft. But something tells me Google is heading in a completely different direction. The Anti-Microsoft? Time will tell I guess.

  Assuming your scenario is correct, just because someone busy a digital version of a movie doesn't me they won't buy the dvd. Or that they would have bought a dvd without the digital version. Most people aren't technically savvy enough to burn a digital version to a dvd or vice versa. It is just convenient to have it already converted for you.
  
  Really, if they are going to put so much restriction on downloading and/or charging an exorbitant amount of money for them, why even bother putting out downloads? Reinvest the money into making better product or heaven forbid a little costumer service.

  $25 to download a movie?

  So are we getting anything other than a digital copy. I might say it was worth the $25 if we would get a free copy of the dvd when it was released. But then what is the point of charging $25 to begin with, just charge $5 for the digital then $20 for the dvd or some variation of that.
  
  I guarantee that most people wouldn't even know how to download the movie to begin with and the ones that do are the ones downloading them for free anyways so whats the point? I mean Really!? Who are these "meatheads" in charge and why is it so hard for them to grasp these things?
  
  Sometimes I think far too many companies are run by a bunch of meatwads. *ATHF anyone?

  The lawyers should wait a couple months after this software has been in use, that way they would not only get payed to form the rules but litigate as well. Damn, this is going to make them filthy, stinking rich. Meanwhile, innovation dies from red tape asphyxiation.

  Actually, its funny you bring up a patent on photosynthesis. Because we may not be far from there be some company who is going to do just that. There are already scientist trying to develop a way to mimic photosynthesis to power damn near everything. But you can bet your bottom dollar that once they find the way they will patent the HELL out of it!

  I agree with you on them lacking that certain je ne sais quoi. It seems to me they aren't really taking it very seriously. They could just be using it without really believing in it; which could be responsible for the lack of that certain something, or effort for that matter.

  Well I have my legendary detector overclocked to 6.66 Gghz(Google Hertz; as in a '1' with a million zeros, not the search engine) & it is telling me he was most definitely being sarcastic.
  
  As I mention below(or above depending on if it is threaded or flattened, respectively), whats the point of only 50 people being able to get it; regardless if only 50 can go back stage, just alternate or something.

  I would probably take it one step further and say its not just consumers but the average Joe/Jane that are being empowered. With the ease of access to the internet and other chains of communication continuing to increase, we could be reaching an age where everyone's voice can truly be heard.
  
  I for one welcome that age with open arms. With increasing amounts of information available out there, we can make more informed decisions on just about anything.
  
  We may already be in this age actually. I remember when I was still in elementary school and doctors wanted to damn near cut me in half to correct some kidney problems. Luckily for me, my mother took it upon herself to research different surgeries online(and with Dial-up to boot... ouch). Found out about a laser surgery that only makes very small(and now nearly invisible) scars. Back when she asked the "doctors" about it they got all high&mighty on her and told her she shouldn't be doing research, just follow them blindly. I thank God she didn't!
