    Spelling counts especially on legal stuff!

    The reason spelling counts - especially on legal documents, is for instance: John Robinson and John Robins are probably two entirely different people! If you don't even know who the hell you're chasing then you probably have it wrong in the first place. Clueless government officials rarely follow the law in the first place, but Jesus Christ on a cracker you need to know who you are trying to accuse/subpoena/get information from.

    The gov't doesn't need proof of anything since no crime was committed by Wikileaks. Take the witch hunt elsewhere.

    As for transparency - the gov't works for me - not the other way around. As an employer I want answers - as the employee the gov't needs to STFU and do as it's told instead of doing as it wishes and trying to hide those activities. Be thankful you (the gov't) have a job - for now.

    Yes analogous to a point...certainly not the point where they are the same or used interchangeably; although the Pro IP crowd always screams "thief" when it really is simply infringement.

    One way would be to....

    use experts in various fields to review patents before they ever get to the approval/reject stage. The experts should certainly be aware of prior art, baseless patents, etc. and easily dismiss many of the bad patents we see get processed and approved.

    Use theses experts to weed out the applications that are beyond questionable or are simply not worthy of further examination and allow the examiners to actually work on only those submissions which need examining to qualify for approval.

    I knew a number of people personally who did die as a result of smoking in moderation - I'll completely disagree with you here. You are leaving out the part of the equation that includes the people who are prone to cancer based on genetics (runs in the family).

    Personally I know the dangers as well and I still do it despite these facts. The labels are meaningless really.

    However, should tobacco even be legal while other less dangerous substances are not?

    My preference is to legalize everything and let nature take its course.

    Theft - denial of an actual piece of real property usually a misdemeanor, depending on value of the item(s)this could possibly be Grand Theft and is a felony.

    Copyright Infringement - Possibly a denial of an opportunity to sell or distribute something protected by a temporary state-sponsored monopoly and as such is simply a civil case with varying damages awarded based on intent and extent of infringement.

    Analogous in a sense that they both interfere with a persons rights but it stops right at that point because it certainly is not analogous in how it affects their "property".

    Theft deals with real property, copyright infringement deals with distribution rights.

    A lethal traffic collision is not the intended use of said vehicle - that collision is an "accident" and an unintentional event, you've missed the point by at least a mile here.

    I totally agree with this point! Legalize it all and tax it. Marijuana growers are closest to actually seeing this happen but poppy growers, and others (currently) illegal substance manufacturers will never see this happen in their lifetime. But our government will spend billions fighting the "War on Drugs" which should be titled the "War on drugs we don't like and subsidize!"

    My major issue here is the selectiveness of Congress to decide what we can and cannot subject ourselves to - which they've decided in some back room and resulted in subsidies going to tobacco farmers because heaven forbid the farmers can't adapt to the new changing markets where tobacco consumption is actually falling.

    Hey farmer - that same dirt WILL grow other crops!!

    Does the RIAA work for the tobacco farmers too?

    When in reality the government and tobacco companies should be held liable for all illness caused by their product since they are already known to be dangerous when used as instructed.

    It's hard to think of another product that can actually kill you, even if used in moderation, that is legal to sell to the public and all that is required to avoid responsibility is a warning on the package basically saying "the product within this package can and may kill you, even if used in moderation."

    (BTW, that initial accident involving the officer and family happened about 4 blocks from my home and I actually drove through that intersection shortly (within minutes) after the crash. My condolences to the family and friends of the victims.)

    Bribery by the middle class is impossible. The middle class essentially doesn't even exist anymore in the US.

    There are the "haves" and the "have nots" - if you don't know which you are are then you're a "have not".

    If you can afford to even entertain the thought of bribery then you are a "have".

    When the "haves" use materials from other sources this is seen as business as usual and it's "how we've always done things"!

    When the "have nots" use materials from other sources even legitimately, this is theft/piracy, and is quickly followed by a "have" "lobbying/bribing" the necessary officials to make sure the act is classified as such and all appropriate "have nots" shall be brought to justice!

    When the hypocrisy is pointed out by a "have not" the "haves" then classify the said "have not" as a "freetard".

    FYI - the reading of the Constitution was a bi-partisan effort and both sides participated willingly.

    As an aside, I actually hate both sides of the aisle equally - just so everyone understands I'm not sticking up for the Reps or Dems.

    Really? Guess what? There are a finite number of books available on the planet too!

    Yet, book sales continue, libraries get used, people even get their names on waiting lists for books - voluntarily!

    I'm not sure you're really making a point at all here unless your point is that libraries aren't all that convenient for you, personally.

    If you want a copy of the book to keep - GO BUY ONE! If you just want to read it, borrow it from a friend in the cloud. You may decide you like a book so much you end up buying it after you read it the first time.

    I live in San Diego and the County Library System lists 33 locations and 2 bookmobiles! Please use numbers somewhat reasonable rather than pure speculation.
