Because all the sellers would then relocate to states with no sales tax such as Oregon.
They want to eliminate as much "wiggle room" as they can.
An perfect example are companies such as MS and Google maintaining a PO Box as a corporate HQ just to use (abuse) tax laws and not have to pay million/billions.
It's the law. Play the game.
>>These kinds of attacks may make some kids feel better, but they don't help at all.
You keep talking about "chilling effect". If these people not only continue but escalate their actions will this not have a "chilling effect" on over reaching PA's and their supposedly intelligent lap dogs?
Look at the Dotcomm situation. The local goons rolled over and let the various US three letter agencies direct them into doing illegal actions for months and months. Unfortunately, he had enough resources to not only hold the US agencies off but to actually fight back and is handing out black eyes all over the place.
So you tell me, why are the people that did these clearly illegal acts not being prosecuted with the same vim as Schwartz and Dotcomm?
That does not bode well for the online LEGAL digital music marketplace.
They are just leaving money on the table as far as I am concerned.
There is no way I am going to subscribe to a music service so they can:
1. Spy on what I am listening to.
2. Bombard me with ad's.
3. Delete my music library "because they can".
4. Many other reasons I am too lazy to list.
So I will just continue to swap with friends and torrent the rest.
If more bands would have a contribute page or sell direct I would support them. Unfortunately, most of them are also electing to leave (my) money on the table.
>>For me the answer was obvious. It was technology.
For me the answer is obvious also. Decriminalize most drugs.
Anything else is just a waste of time, money and lives.
Of course, Mexico has already shown how brown their nose is as they allow themselves to be the cats paw of the US.
This is a US problem being fought on Mexican soil. Mexico is the country losing their citizens lives and futures because they won't (for whatever reason) tell the US to handle the problem themselves.
Techdirt has not posted any stories submitted by Ralph.
As a supporter of on line education...
I can hardly think of ANYTHING that would drive vast unwashed hordes to 100% online instruction faster than this.
