just madness! I spent more money on music last year than at any point in my life and the wonderful thing, the truly sweet thing is that the money went to the source of the thing I loved, nothing like walking past HMV logging onto your current fave bands website and sending them $5 via paypal to access their latest album... physical media like cds... wtf!

    B'stards!

I'm going to start a facebook group to boycott "The Rite" with Anthony Hopkins.. the b'stards deliberately shot the movie outside of the US to prevent The Humane Association from checking whether frogs were harmed swimming in ponds, cats abused walking in and out of houses, birds flying and best not mention the red eyed donkey! Grrrr!

The CNN article is based on research by Professor Douglas Gentile, there is a question and answer session done by Playstationlifestyle.net here >> http://playstationlifestyle.net/2011/01/24/the-dark-side-of-gaming-professor-douglas-gentile-on-depression-and-addiction/ and I think the actual paper can be downloaded/read here >> http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/reprint/peds.2010-1353v1.

I still think it's a great moral panic!

lol... all this talking about swapping terrabyte hard drives reminds me of the days we used to swap cd's around the globe before p2p became mainstream. I give it 10-20 years and the "freetard" youth will be in their 30's and 40's and running the damn show, the old guard will be drinking tea on the porches of their corporate sponsored/paid for houses wondering how they failed.

  • US Response To Massive Decline In Foreign Travelers: Keep Crazy Policies, But Set Up Ad Campaign

I know the US is filled with great people and you have some of the best scenery and places to visit in the world, I know that my friends tell me that US hospitality tends to be great... But I wouldn't travel to the US in a million years.

    Re: Logic problem

He may only kill 20 odd people but think about how much financial damage he does to the city when their international hub shuts down not to mention what sort of security measures the TSA would roll out before they reopened it... hell I'm surprised they haven't done it already, maybe they don't read TechDirt?

    Re: Proof?

I lived through the height of the IRA bombings and had a family friend killed at Deal all because he enjoyed playing a trumpet... Security here is pretty much a joke, nothing remotely like what's going on in the US. It's the stiff upper lip mentality that grips the nation you see... thats why people were crawling out the wreckage of the underground and then all sitting down drinking tea.

  • Newspapers Say: Shut Up And Get Scanned And Groped

Gotta love 'em.... can someone remind these editorial numbskulls that NOT EVERYONE IS SCANNED and that NEARLY EVERYONE ELSE gets to walk through a megnetron and then board the damn plane.... also as pointed out already the nice little terrorist has already made it to the US by this point so may as well blow up the airport, underground rail, bus depot, train station, FBI building etc WHERE THEY DON'T USE SCANNERS or enhanced pat downs either.

Some idiot anchor on the news "but... but... if we had all this in place earlier Abdulmutallab wouldn't have got on the plane"... doh! he would have because he got on in Amsterdam, where the TSA don't have scanners or fondle people.

  • President Obama, After Traveling With Naked Scanner CEO, Defends Naked Scans

    Re: Re: Re: Scanners

Oh I am concerned by my own country and am active in all manner of activities questioning my own government and it's actions.

Regarding my little jab, maybe it was in bad taste, but 100% accurate. Lots of dollar bills made its way to the Emerald Isle during the "Troubles"... and I've seen first hand what that money helped pay for.

The War on Terror / The War on Al-Qaeda... semantics mate, thats all... same thing, unless Al-Qaeda have moved into the flower delivery business?

The point still stands... What have you gained from all of this? Security? I don't think so....

  • President Obama, After Traveling With Naked Scanner CEO, Defends Naked Scans

    Planespotter ( profile ), 22 Nov, 2010 @ 08:23am

    Re: Scanners

Ok dokes.. if it is about safety why isn't everyone forced to go through the scanner rather than pull out people at random? Why do most people walk through the magnetic scanner or get wanded (sp?)?

This has nothing to do with safety, it is about lining the pockets of big business who just happen to contribute cash to political campaigns and have CEO's who fly around the world with the President.

Since 9/11 the US has become paranoid about airplanes... to be honest any self respecting terrorist should move his target from the plane to the airport, shutting down JFK or one of the big international hubs would cost millions in lost revenue and also seriously knock the US who have this thing about being "attacked on home soil"...

As a Brit who's used to having terrorists (funded by lovely US citizens) blow up his country I'm quite used to it, as well as the Londoners who went about their normal business after teh terrorist attacks in London. You've already lost the war on terror, look at what you are doing to your own people in the name of "security".

Would the time and tax dollars not be better spent hunting down foreign nationals who have murdered people/raped children, traffic humans heading into slavery? You know the sort of thing that actually does make a difference!

    Planespotter ( profile ), 12 Nov, 2010 @ 07:14am

    Re:

How can they have proper research? Did they go and ask every single person who obtained their "item" from file sharing whether they would have paid for it or not? If the answer to that is NO then they are basing their losses on something akin to "1 download = 1 lost sale" and their research is therefore worthless.

  • UK Gov't's Response To Petition Against Disconnections: We've Redefined Disconnection

    Planespotter ( profile ), 12 Nov, 2010 @ 05:04am

    No surprise...

Having signed the petition I recieved the response and as said I wasn't surprised by it... I also wasn't surprised when Ed Vaizey (Minister responsible for Communication, Culture and the Creative Industries) failed to respond to an email I sent pulling him on continually repeating statistics and figures that came from the industries asking for more government protection.

Hopefully the judicial review will clarify things further... although if it doesn't... I won't be surprised.
