  • Could The RIAA Stop Piracy By Coming Up With A More Compelling Story?

    Osno ( profile ), 26 Jun, 2009 @ 10:30am

On the other hand if the RIAA did take artists and fans fairly, and legislators were actually working on the public interest, the story may be quite different. Talking the talk will make them less trustworthy, not more. Specially with papers like this. Stating "whether it is true or not" implies that they will be willing to lie. I don't understand how lying is conceived as a technique to construct ethos and credibility. At least they accept they're unethical and non-credible.

  • Swedish Appeals Court Denies Pirate Bay Retrial — Says No Bias By Judge

    Osno ( profile ), 25 Jun, 2009 @ 11:49am

That's Reductio ad Hitlerum (or more currently, Goldwin's Law). They are claiming a ridiculous circular thing (that since copyright is legal a judge in a copyright association can't be biased for copyright and so TPB has no case because they violated copyright, which is what's in discussion). Please don't reduce it to a nazi apology.

Cool. $3 for a single article. The News Times, taking the "micro" out of micropayments since 1990.

    Oh, and frist.

  • German Court Says Rapidshare Must Get Magical Powers To Know Which Songs Infringe And Which Do Not

As with all these filters, my gut reaction is "meh". Rapidshare has always been the land of the password-protected rar file, anyway. Good luck knowing what's inside that!! And also, because of the way it works it's really not that good for massive infringement.

  • Amanda Palmer Connects With Fans, Gives 'Em A Reason To Buy… And Makes $19k In 10 Hours

    Osno ( profile ), 24 Jun, 2009 @ 01:04pm

What's weird is that 30k albums is ok for promotion if coming from a label, but if someone gets it from bittorrent (and gets her the same promotion or more for the same amount of money) then suddenly it's immoral. And please don't start on the "she couldn't have recorded it without" because it was already stated that she could have.

  • RIAA Has A Blog? And They Use It To Read My Mind!

They can screw up over and over again... but they must be paid for each one for 70 years after they're dead.

  • RIAA Has A Blog? And They Use It To Read My Mind!

    1. The RIAA doesn't have a blog. Blogs have comments. The RIAA's is a news site.
    2. Echoing what another comment said about the "if they make money I deserve some" logic.
    3. They say about not charging radio stations: "If this is the price of gaining a minimum level of protection for the future, we are willing to pay it…". So what was that? Buying some time to come back every few years? The RIAA has been accused of that (trying the same tactics over and over and over and over again). I think they're simply confirming by not showing any shame on saying "I'm willing to give up this if you give me that" and then a few years later saying "I want this too!! I deserve it".
