    Why contracts

I hear people complain about contracts and cell phones all the time, but what I cannot figure out is why. Why use their service if having a contract is so terrible? Why complain all the time about being trapped? I don't know maybe it is me but I could terminate my contract whenever I want, but where would I go? AT&T has been good to me and I would not use any other service provider. So I sign a new two year contract to get a new phone every time. Where is the problem. Vote with your dollar. If you do not like contracts don't sign any use one of the alternatives, or just stop ranting about your own actions. I am not speaking to any one in particular just ranting myself.

    Competing in the market

Lego has let their quality slip in recent years, but is still better then mega bloks. I have children and still prefer lego to the cheaper no namers, but must admit that I bought a set of the larger mega bloks thinking they were duplo and have regetted it ever since. The two packages are almost identical. That is the point of trademark I thought, so that when the consumer buys what looks like a brand, it is not some cheap fake masquerading as the real thing

    Brian,
I think you are missing the point, he is not commenting on the practice of using other people's ideas to create new content, but rather the unethical double standard being used by one of copyright biggest supporters. Disney says that everyone should pay them for even thinking "Mickey Mouse" but has no problems use other hard work for free.

    Re: Re: Upgrading Infrastructure

"It's kinda like those folks who like to drive at or below the limit in the passing lane. Sure they have a right to drive at that speed, but they should also respect the rights of others and yield the lane to other who wish to go faster."
First let me say this is a terrible analogy. The law says you can drive up to the speed limit, it does not say you have any right to drive faster then that limit. As a matter of fact you do not even have the right to drive period. you have the right to take the test and become licensed, which allows you to take advantage of the privilege of driving, but I promise you, you do not have a right to drive, and definitely do not have the right to speed.

    Angry Dude,
I like the way you think. Now if you could just put that considerable intellect to use on reality you could help to transform the world into a better place. I agree that the small inventor needs to be protected, but what does that have to do with a shell company that acquires patents for the sole purpose of making money off the patents?

    Re:

    Dorpus,
Are you playing devils advocate again. You must know that what is being said here is that we as grow adults (parents) must learn to take responsibility for our actions and teach our children. Throughout history every society that has allowed the government to run their lives has failed. We do not want America to be the next. As a people we need to stand up and say enough is enough. We want our freedom! If my child needs a spanking than a spanking is what he/she will get, because I love them to much to allow them to grow up without discipline.
P.S. Why do you read on a web site that so offends your sensibilities?

    Why is entertainment so important

I am saddened by the lengthy discussions about why a millionaire deserves or doesn't deserve more money. I am disturbed by the argument that if we do not give enough money to “artists” that they will not be able to craft their art. Hear me out I am an admirer of the arts and I can appreciate the time and talent it takes to create in any form of art. Why do we feel the need to support it? When was the last time a box office hit could be considered “beautiful” or better yet original? Really if we stop spending millions of dollars on mindless entertainment we win the argument. If you are unwilling to stop spending all that money on entertainment then shut-up!!!! You have no right to complain about what they do with the money you gave them.
P.S. No one ever said they had to be actors.
