Copyright infringement is "theft" - it's stated pretty simple in the law books. Putting the word in quotations won't take that fact away. It's obvious that most of the people that oppose this really oppose the government taking away their ability to steal property, which is understandable. When you've spent the last decade able to enjoy the fruits of someone elses labor without having to adequately compensate them it's a bit of a shock to not be able to do that anymore.
It's very telling that it's both the far left and far right that find this bill threatening. The far left thinks that the first amendment protects thievery, and the tea baggers - well they don't really like anything so it's not suprising that they're against it.
Bottom line is the first amendment doesn't protect thievery. If a man was selling stolen watches on the streets of New York he would be arrested immediately and his property confiscated. It's the same concept here. Compensate the artists that enrich your lives.
I find it funny how it's always the filthy rich artists who seem to think it's OK to steal intellectual property. Of course it's OK for you Francis Ford Coppolla, you've already made tens (maybe hundreds) of millions of dollars from people purchasing your art. Why should you care? Same goes for Radiohead and NIN. No struggling artists ever appreciate they're art being stolen.
Wyden just needs to STFU already. Piracy and counterfeiting are costing the global economy trillions of dollars and millions of jobs. There isn't any other way to combat it except to shut the sites down. A store in NYC that sold stolen watches or counterfeited handbags would be shut down immediately. Same concept here. Wyden needs to not be blinded by his far left ideology as to discount common sense. And this is coming from a liberal.
Actually, the movie industry is losing money if you adjust for inflation and the reason that ticket prices are so high is because of this. Despite the fact that 'records are being broken' attendance is actually down a signifigant amount. Not everyone that works in the movie industry is a mega-producer like Jerry Bruckheimer making millions. Most grips and lower level personel on movies make less than 25K and have jobs that are in jeapardy because of piracy. Great works of art are worth money and people should be paid in accordance with the law. Do you any of you who are pro-piracy work for free? I'd love for you to show up at your IT job and have your boss tell you that he loves your work, but you're not getting paid this week and that the fact that you do such a good job should be satisfaction enough for you.
Give me a break. It will be a sad world we live in when ideas and intellectual property are no longer worth money. Like it or not, that's what gives people the time and incentive to keep the good one's coming. I applaud the government's efforts to keep the world from slipping into the second dark ages.

Senator Wyden, a thieves best friend and an artist's worst enemy.
Actually Mike......

Very Telling
