    Re:

You don't have to dust ebooks. You dont have to worry about moving a 1000+ ebooks in boxes every Time you move. I have moved perhaps a dozen times in my adult life. Generally if I go on holiday for a few weeks I might go through a dozen books Funnily enough, I generally do take 1 paper book when I go on holiday, Paper beats ebook for sitting on beach/by pool.It is also better for a coffee table book. But if all you are doing is buying mass market paperbacks, meh give me a ebook anytime A new paperback is like $20 Aus, a new ebook is $7 Aus or rent on kindle for almost free.

  • Marvel Hit Once Again By Estate For Some Spider-Man, Doctor Strange Copyright Terminations

    Ngita ( profile ), 27 Sep, 2021 @ 08:47pm

    Its not hard.

Copyright gives rights regardless of having no contract

Contracts gives rights based on the contract regardless of copyright.

This is a contract case not copyright, as long as one of the parties can produce a contract I would expect it to be relatively simple.

You can't terminate a copyright you don't own. Or at least have not granted rights to in perpetuity.

  • Commentator Insists That Fact Checking Is An Attack On Free Speech

    Re: Re: Re:

This, The science is reasonably good on they mostly prevent you passing it on. The science on does it prevent you from catching covid is a little more debatable. At one end we know that emergency personnel, with gloves, Booties, scrubs, masks and face shields have still have caught covid. That the difference between a mask and a "fitted" mask can be statistically measurable. Is that cloth mask you have been wearing for weeks, and is probably full of bacteria, "safer" for YOU then no mask at all. Debatable. Its a little like fact checkers, I do not see any problem with being fact checked. But fact checked by some invisible minion, you have no way to debate with and no way to reverse when he is wrong. It not like you can post counter speech with proof. That will be fact checked and censored as well

  • Publisher Decries Damn Libraries Entertaining The Masses Stuck At Home For Free

    Ngita ( profile ), 28 Jul, 2020 @ 08:14pm

Re: double the income of our starving authors.

given Book publishing companies seem to share Accounting practices with Movie publishers I am not even sure they know. But it varies a lot and Self publishing on Amazon is several 100% more profitable by book, Pre Amazon I probably purchased 1% of what I borrowed from the library, With more disposable income and increased difficulty in getting to the library I rarely go now. Perhaps once in the last year? But even back then I mostly used the library to find authors I liked and then purchased their books.

  • Profiteering Off Publicly Funded COVID Treatments

    Ngita ( profile ), 21 Jun, 2020 @ 07:35pm

    Re: Re: Re:

Australia has similar mechanisms. A reasonably big fuss was made because after trumpeting in the press that a 30 year old had died of COVID-19 and that he was the youngest to die in Australia, the autopsy revealed that he had not in fact died of COVID, that he did not have COVID and the 5000 people tested for possible contact revealed nobody that was infected with COVID.

  • Minneapolis City Council Votes Unanimously To Disband Its Police Department

    Re: untenable political position

They are city council. It not supposed to be a job for life, Not doing something that might get you kicked out if you don't do it is not a untenable political position. They could refuse to do anything and continue their policy of just keeping the police union happy. Oh surprise you are no longer In office. Caving in to the police Union knowing that the police are racist and corrupt and could in the future make actions that the city council would regret is what put them in this position

  • Roadside Breath Tests Are Just As Unreliable As Field Drug Tests

    Ngita ( profile ), 20 Nov, 2019 @ 10:12pm

Australia and NZ. An over the limit reading in the field simply mean a visit to the Station or Truck where another machine that is not roadside portable and presumably more accurate reading is run. It can occur that the additional time can lead to someone just over dropping to just under.

But at least on TV you never see anyone dropping from 2-3 times over to under or read in the press that any complaints that they got off after a road side reading grossly over the limits.

  • Nevada Judge Says Online News Publications Aren't Protected By The State's Journalist Shield Law

I don't like the precedent. Whats next, You phone has a 1/100000 chance of releasing toxic materials when cracked, We are bricking it tp protect you. Your phone is last years model, who knows what could happen with such antiquated Electronics, we are bricking it.

In the meantime someone who brought a dud now gets the additional punishment of having it rendered useless, when they may not know or be eligible for any recompense.

  • Supreme Court Refuses To Hear Apple's Appeal In eBook Price Fixing Case

    Ngita ( profile ), 07 Mar, 2016 @ 08:59pm

"Meanwhile, even as Apple has now lost the case, it did still succeed in forcing the price of many ebooks much, much higher."

As i understand it, the publishers simply negotiated "independently", same end result but Apple was not involved.

95% of what I read is indy or Baen anyway.

  • Right To Be Forgotten Now Lives In Australia: Court Says Google Is The 'Publisher' Of Material It Links To

    Ngita ( profile ), 28 Oct, 2015 @ 06:24pm

Re: Re: Re: Unlimited liability for newpaper delivery boys?

Google make a editorial decision, they block the ripoff report in Australia.

Guess what then the Ripoff report would be complaining to Google.

If the Australian government passes a right to be forgotten Law then Duffy could accomplish what she wanted, but short of that anything Duffy could ask for, someone else would just be as legally justified to ask for it be reversed.
