Their issue is going for the wrong offence for the sake of a harsher punishment. Get the brat for libel and Criminal Impersonation ?assuming a false identity with the intent to defraud another.

I normally hate the state stepping in on things but when a parent is doing something so stupid that it can be considered child negligence, it is time. Naming a kid something stupid like that should count.

FOr the guy saying names can easily be changed, no they can't, just ask a 12 year old kid getting beat up and harassed over his name how easy it is to change. This is borderline child abuse.

So, Should I get sent to stand trial in N. Korea because I said N.Korea sucks here in the US? What if I have consenting sex outside of marriage to an Iranian girl who moved here, should I be sentenced in an Iranian court? Should she be sent to Iran to be stoned to death because she dishonored her family back home?

Laws can't extend past boundaries because laws often don't match and in some cases flat out contradict each other.

Re: Megaupload was doing BUSINESS in the United States.

By your argument I am doing world wide business by supplying a script that runs the security check for ZFS file systems that could make deleted files unrecoverable.

Should I get charged in every country in the world for criminal destruction of evidence because someone used it wrongly?

By the way for every study showing Hollywood got an increase in profits there are 2 that show it hurt sales for smaller non-blockbuster ticket sales. How about we shut down Dropbox, Cubby and Sugarsync to see if there is a profit increase. While on the subject of data lockers how about some physical ones. How about we block train stations and airports from renting lockers to see if there is a decrease in drug sales... I would bet it would work while hurting people who use digital and physical lockers for work and personal backup.

It still kills me that Kim is called a pirate when he gave media the keys to kill downloads themselves and complied with DMCA take-down notices yet Dropbox, RapidShare, MediaFire, ZippyShare, RapidGator, uploading, DataFileHost, Orion, SlingFile, LimeLinx, Upload.to and others don't do all of the same... hell some just blocked US IP addresses so media companies couldn't find the files.

DOJ is just dragging this out to make a spectacle of the whole mess so they can say they are working hard. They didn't even find the % of pirated material they expected to.

I keep trying to make the same argument to foreign companies that see shows fan-subtitled in torrents. They should find the famous subbers, download the episodes, burn disks with those subs and sell them in the country that applies.

Those subs are usually better than professional and 100% FREE. More companies need to add up the loss, subtract the marketing they don't have to do, subtract the analysis costs, subtract translator and timer costs and cut out the "middleman companies" with all the lawyer costs involved there and the lawyer costs involved in suing torrenters only to find they are little old grannies with open Wi-Fi. I bet all those costs would make the loss minimal or a wash in the end.

For the twat who wrote the article and the twats who keep saying he is trying to relaunch Megaupload, no. Megabox is, accroding to Kim himself, a music streaming site for which he is providing some of his own self-produced music to start with.

And it is not the "so called Megabox" it is Megabox, read his own tweets and sites yourself.
