"The money that?s collected, up to 5 euro per device, will be distributed to copyright holders."
Copyright holders, not the artists who created the content. Because morality!
I do like the article image though. Something about it...
Sounds like Apple belongs to the fruit family of sour grapes.
Why are you spending $100m on a movie?
The pattern is that they just want somebody punished. It doesn't really matter who. Somebody must pay.
"Soon, they'll want to re-release movie with them credited as the director just because they paid for the film."
Well hey now there's a good idea to monetize. Director's Credits!
This, and the fact that people weren't forced to pay the exact same amount. These ACs and non-ACs seem to be very resentful of that.
They should start naming toilet seats after them. Then sit back and watch the fur fly.
This is the first reference I thought of too. +Funny.
Should be a tv show. "You're hurting your rivals, Goog!"
Perhaps the FTC Commissioners would like to tell me which email service I can use with my email-only domain, that will allow me to use as many aliases as I need, with all of the features of Gmail, and POP/IMAP without paying any dollar amount.
Oh wait, this is only about searches, right?
Ad blocking: theft you can feel good about!

Quarter of a century??
*looks it up*

Thanks, I'll keep those in mind.
I'm much the same way. It's just damned unfortunate that the only decent headphones I own happen to be branded Sony.
Ouch.
AC, as the netizens would say, would you like some ice for that burn?
I believe Twitter has a setting that automatically posts tweets to Facebook if you choose. Let the litigation begin.
"I also wouldn't be surprised if they tried to redefine year as a galactic or cosmic year. (225-250 million Earth years)"
Oh you know they will. Just wait till a single human being sets foot on Mars.
"Now I'm waiting for this blog to endorse RIAA and MPAA memberships for the indie artists who want to be part of the regulatory process. The trade groups could let small folks join on a pro-rated basis and then the cycle would be complete. Think of all of the advantages joining the RIAA and the MPAA would bring the indie artists. This blog should endorse this in about 6 months."
You say "this blog". Do you mean the writers, specifically, or the commenters as well? Or only Mike Masnick? He's already gone on record stating he doesn't want RIAA and MPAA to fail, why is this not enough?
I guess this is what you call an...
Enterprise-level problem.
If you've learned something, you might consider possibly experimenting with some new business models. Going to release any of your work under a Creative Commons license? Reduce the price a bit? Remove the DRM for a limited time? Connect with some fans? Or try to turn some Techdirt readers into fans?
Re: Re: Re: Uh, taking someone's output without permission is slavery
I know, but I really couldn't help it.
