Aaron has become, and i hate to use the word, a martyr for those of us who stand against governmental abuse of technology laws. The irony is sickening as we promote internet services as a voice for the repressed people of various countries, then turn around and not so much throw the book at our own people, but steamroll them into oblivion so prosecutors can get their much desired reputation as 'tough on crime'. tough? more like tortuous. crime? more like a misunderstanding of technology on par with asking my grandmother to configure a server.

"The price is set at what the market will bear, so in this case, the flood of supply and shrinking demand exerts downward pressure on the market. Hobbyists have nothing to do with it. " so wait, the flood of hobbyists have nothing to do with the flood of supply? this is like saying 'south of the border surgery isn't taking away business from qualified doctors, it's just the price the market will bear'

i really have to say, the amount of absolutely ridiculous lawsuits is probably caused by corporate lawyers who come running to their client screaming 'OH SWEET JEEBUS, SOMEONE IS MAKING MONEY OFF YOUR $^@&! PAY US $700 AN HOUR AND IT'LL GO AWAY!'

trust the french to surrender at the first possible chance.

the washington post cant even get me to sign up for a free account to read their online articles. i deleted the feed and get my news elsewhere now.

hours of playing halo and rainbow 6 have not turned me into the hardened killing machine they should have. when i need to kill thousands of grunts or plant explosives on an entryway. i have nothing to rely on but meaningless motions of my fingers.

    i want my money back.

so what happens to the communication that isnt electronic, and doesnt take place where anyone can record it? what if i was a staffer and discussed policy in the comfort of my own home, without any records, written or otherwise existing?

it'd be the same damn thing as talking over IM, except with IM i can turn on logging to save all my conversations

maturity has very little to do with it. teens in every generation do 'stupid' and 'shocking' things that will invariably damage them beyond the ability to be a normal person in the future...if you listen to experts.

i'm sure with the proliferation of polaroid cameras, the exact same thing happened. i'm sure with the first easily available digital cameras this began to show up.

kids do stupid things. hell, adults do stupid things. ever heard of kwame kilpatrick? i bet the teens sending 'explicit' pictures of themselves were actually smarter than our defunct mayor.

this is a technological issue. and before you go banning digital communications, realize-it. will. happen. again. and again. with each iteration of new ways to take and send pictures.

the shock value will wear off in between, and the next time it happens, someone will decry the decaying morals of our youths and how theyre destroying themselves.

and i bet those same people will have sent some pretty risque stuff themselves.

75 cents? i miss those days. $1.50 for anything besides water now

i think its a great idea, with one important thing caveat though. the label traditionally managed so much of the band and took care of those big important decisions. if a band raises money and goes off on its own, great, but they'd better have a good manager

    Re: Nope

not a flip flopper? this isnt 2004, and no one cares that you vote for a bill one way before they change it and you have to vote another way.

but under your understanding, mccain isnt flip flopping because he voted for it...and then he asked to be exempt from it...

    right.

    uh...yeah right

laws outlying cyberbullying? when they cant even deal with it face to face? its ridiculous. what are you going to do, have jury trial every time theres a he-said-she-said bullying case? our teachers and administrators are so inept half the time they'd rather punish both kids involved instead of doing any work to determine the truth, and you want them to investigate bullying ONLINE?

good luck, i'm sure itll be as effective as asking the pedophiles not to use unregistered emails.

Re: Re: Work for hire =/ giving up copyright

riiiight, because even though its a 'scam', youre the only one smart enough that in your 12 years of life you have singlehandedly determined that every wedding photographer who has a contract retaining copyright is scamming his customers.

i get the feeling we're having such issues with copyright, overzealous company lawyers and rock-bottom stupid politicians because they, for the most part, are significantly older than the generations that have grown up with digital media instead of analog. theyre still trying to apply physical constraints to virtual products because they cant wrap their tiny little minds around the concept of infinite goods.

as for modding, and the whole gaming industry in general, i see no reason why their products should be "illegal" to reverse engineer, take apart, or modify.

is someone going to sue me if i take apart a tennis racket to figure out how they made it, and then make it better?

  • May 28, 2008 @ 12:23pm

i would hope that googles hive mind is smarter than a belgian newspaper that wants to run a DoS

  • May 07, 2008 @ 02:18pm

i'm continuously amused by how stupid the RIAA is. someone fresh out of law school couldnt make these mistakes on purpose.

  • Mar 27, 2008 @ 09:26am

oddly enough, i havent downloaded anything beyond a specific song or two in years now. all my music is stol- i mean borrowed from my friends, whether through CDs or just taking their external hard drives
