No pretense I know some of what I read here is opinion Just happens to be (in many cases) an opinion I share I honestly wondered when you would not do a piece on GG, and I am happy with what you came up with. Its not really a freedom of speech issue, you can plainly read the drivel from either side all over social media, so not your thing there. The death threats are interesting...but until someone actually does shoot up someplace it would be giving attention where none is due. So smart decision staying out of the hate cycle which it has become. (altho the part where gamerSgate is getting threats is actually pretty funny.)
Thanks for the ever engaging commentary on the world of copyright IP and the other issues favored here. Its always an interesting read. And thanks for not selling out what are at times unpopular opinions for a better rating in the numbers game of the internet. There are too few outlets of this type of journalism available to the average reader. Thanks Mike P.S.Here's an insight on the whole GG thing, (Its all Google's Fault! Just ask OOTB)
Legal or not, it is kinda sneaky taking advantage of those not savvy enough to know better.
Say you hitch up a PC for grandma so she and the grandkids can keep in touch via email. Grandma loves it, but becomes bedridden and so turns on this new fangled wifi so she can use her ipad (lol) from bed for the same purpose. Now grandma knows nothing about anything tech wise other than email.
And someone comes by and steals grandmas cookies...Is that right?
Point is not everyone knows enough to protect themselves.
"and as a result of that monopoly, Blockbuster raised its prices."
Now this may be completely backwards but, wouldn't Blockbuster be forced to LOWER it's prices in response to a "monopoly" in order to compete with them?
Besides if you think about it (not over think it as some here tend to do) They would have never brought suit being they would have (more than likely) never known about it.
Unless they have a way to somehow monitor that companies printer... Wait that just scares me way too much.
Lets say I apply a "terms of use" statement to my web site, that forbids search engines from listing it.
Could I then sue Google for a contract violation should it show up in a web search?
I have a LOT to say on this subject..
However my guild is waiting for me to log in so we can kill things and take their stuff.
Violence and addiction? Nonsence!
GOOD!
Its about time the US government cracked down on this illegal activity.
OK so its legal to do that in Costa Rica so what? The money being "taken" out of US bank accounts is from US citizens, and last I checked it is illegal here.
We have enough problems with gambling right here at home. It's a nice warning to other "out of country" companies that you can not prey on our problem gamblers and stay out of jail. Even though the home base is somewhere else the "activity" is taking place here and should be sopped.
I hope they really make an example of this guy.
Well dorky as it sounds thats not the truth.
While playing the computer game Everquest (actually this version was played on the PS2) I met a proud brave warrior named Tristin who after a few years of on-line "hanging out" met and married. During our "dating" period we even got virtually married in the Final Fantasy game FFXI and followed that up this year in real life.
"She was the perfect match for me" I tell people,
"She was a 'tank' and I am a 'healer', what else could you ask for?"
Techdirt has not posted any stories submitted by Charles Smith.
If This Happens
Next time my dog takes a crap on the carpet, I will explain how he has made such a dangerous mess and demand it get sucked right back up his butt!
