Great demonstration of what 'vile, putrid fuck' means.
Just a reminder, the creeps who favor this kind of legislation are generally the same ones who think the sight of a female breast will harm a child. That kinda says it all.
So Elon Musk is a mechtheist. Love it.
This has a strong Howard Hughs foreboding feel to it, Elon will end like Hughs, he'll turn into a recluse [probably constantly cursing advertisers and all others who called him out for being, uh, Elonesque] and at death, well, it wasn't pretty, as wiki describes Hughs' state at death "His hair, beard, fingernails, and toenails were long—his tall 6 ft 4 in (193 cm) frame now weighed barely 90 pounds (41 kg), and the FBI had to use fingerprints to conclusively identify the body"
Shouldn't one of these oracle-type of AI's [given Hitchhiker's Guide as inspiration] be called '42'?
AI can be a little tricky to get into, especially without any actual intelligence to practice with.
Language doesn't work like that, inconsistencies abound as you'd expect since usage determines what's 'correct', which really ain't a thing anyways.
What more needs saying? How much more cynical can one get? How depressing that apparently no amount of cynicism is enough. It's all so sordid and pettily so.
I've had a couple of harrowing incidents involving medical care recently. One involved 27 days in the ICU but possibly the worst was turning 65 in mid-March and what that led to in the prior months, at least 6 fucking months! The volume of junk mail trying to get me to sign up for various Medicare plans was almost frightening, I was deluged daily. I got robo called incessantly, including numerous examples where I declined the call sending to voice-mail but within less than a second another would come in with a different area code, from a different state FFS, this repeated 3 or 4 times. How'd they do that? Spoofing area codes is no big deal but recognizing the sending to voice mail and calling again so rapidly? It 's pretty much proof they're chasing inordinate profits, absurd shenanigans-level profits. The ICU thing, it was billed at just under half a million but the insurance paid only a fraction of that and I was on the hook for under $1300.
It's kinda disturbing how poorly these aholes' brains perform after being poisoned by religion. Most of them simply can't fathom that their religion doesn't get to dictate what is or isn't real or moral.
This was what caught my eye also. Why even bother having such utterly ineffectual fines, they simply become a [minor] cost of doing business. It's pretty much the norm when it comes to fines as sanctions by government agencies and it really needs to stop. At the very least, fine amounts need to be multiples of the benefits gained by the prohibited activity/behavior, or multiples of the costs involved if, as here, the reason for the fine is to limit the risk of costly accidents, which would be probably 10's of millions for geostationary satellites.
Is it really that much of an issue that the emperor has no clothes when he's as dickless and ballless as a Ken doll?
You could justify calling a pretty substantial number of TechDirt posts the 'proving Hitchens right' entry for the day.
Its origins go all the way back in the late 1800's when it was created by fire insurance companies. I would be interested to know its funding sources, maybe it's entirely free of the insurance company influence, I don't know but I'm too cynical to not see $$ as dominating in some way.
There's a lot of kinda scary but hilarious videos on youtube about absurdly bad electrical work. While most of it is pretty easy and like you say just following directions, some things can get a little complex especially stuff like grounding properly which often confuses pros. FYI question--will dropping a hair dryer or any other live electrical piece of equipment in a full sink/bathtub trip the GFCI? Not necessarily, not if you have PVC drain pipes and the sink/tub is otherwise electrically isolated from ground.
Well, I stand corrected, some places are so anal they do require a permit for something like an outlet replacement. NO ONE WILL DO THIS. Same for doing basic plumbing-NO ONE is going to get a permit for this crap, it's just ridiculous to expect anyone to.
I think that's BS and actually silly, see my other reply. You're actually saying that just DIY replacing an outlet is breaking the law! That's just seems like nonsense.
That's not true in Texas and I'd bet in most states if not all. If what you're saying were true, you'd be breaking the law if you replaced a breaker or outlet and that sure seems absurd to me, I've never heard of such BS before. Even adding a whole circuit doesn't require a permit, that really would be extreme.
The NEC is basically a document serving the insurance industry, isn't that correct? As far as I know, a citizen isn't bound by it, you can't be thrown in jail for violating it. I've had my electric power supply company folks not care if my wiring was a bit south of absolutely to code BUT, you can have an insurance claim denied if you do something hinky and burn your house down. It's true that what's good for the insurance industry is by and large what's good for actual human beings living and working in and around the electrical installations covered by the code though I'd bet someon with a lot more knowledge than me could give numerous examples in the code that are not in the best interest of homeowners or workers but are in the interest of insurnce companies covering such installations.
"I have to wonder how much of the sudden sexual-repression-into-law fervor coming from the Christian community leadership" Do you think this is new? FFS, it's SOP for decades at least. I'll admit the shrill factor has been upticking for some time and that's because they realize how badly they're losing the fight, but it's been there all along.
