Just to clarify, Amazon Flexible Payment Service (which you linked to in the article) is still around, and still in beta. It's different from Amazon Checkout, though. Instead of a consumer-oriented solution with a web-based checkout page, it's a web service that programmers can use to build their own payment interfaces or workflows.
