Anonymous Coward wasn't talking about the specifics of those two policies I don't think, but since you brought it up, NYC already subsidiizes private grocery stores to the tune of millions of dollars a year. They're going to direct that money to building a network of grocery stores that don't pay rent or taxes and don't need to turn a profit.
As for rent, 1/4 of the housing in NYC is rent stabilized. Freezing that will be a good start on helping people. It's been done before by various mayors including De Blasio for most of his tenure, and the sky didn't fall. The only reason it seems outrageous is because real estate companies back nearly all candidates in NYC races.
First of all if you bothered to look at his platform, it's a lot more than those three things. That was his message. Maybe you've heard of them.
Secondly, he already has an all-woman transition team made up of heavy hitters including Lina Khan!
And he has talked many times about surrounding himself with the best people including people that disagree with him.
I am so sick of nihilism. Try optimism for once.
And possibly you shouldn't base an entire article off one rumor that gets fed to the press.

I generally enjoy your takes, but this one is hyperbolic. Press reaction was way more measured and reasonable than you make it out. Nearly everything I read or watched on YouTube had the same reasonable reaction as your summary: it's a prototype, they had to start somewhere, it's a real compromise, etc.
For whatever reason, nearly every time my partner signs into Netflix, it sends me an email saying, a new user has signed into your account or some such. If this is how it counts users, I can't see wanting to bother with the system for more than a few iterations of this.
