How did they know they were infringing?
Maybe they give out app store gift cards?
Copyright law wasn't written for the reason you think it was written. It was written to give incentive to creators-- *not* to protect them.
The type of drugs seized by LEOs are illegal in-and-of themselves. An app, or an mp3, or a video file *by itself* isn't illegal-- it depends on if its creation was authorized. There is no real way to tell the difference between an authorized mp3 and an unauthorized one after the act of creation-- so you have to witness that act of creation to know if it's illegal; you don't have to witness a kilo of cocaine being made to know it's illegal.
That's why these "well, drugs are seized" arguments are illogical. They're seized because their mere existence is illegal. This doesn't hold true for copyright infringement.
1. Root phone
2. Buy app
3. Back up app using Titanium Backup, or equivalent
4. Refund app
5. Restore app
6. Use app
Piracy isn't going away. Adapt.
I feel like you should end more comments with "I'm surrounded by assholes!".
Now you're going to have people that intentionally say ridiculous things to try and get voted into the first and last words.
I can't wait!!
Wait.. did I just get the power to ask for something and it be delivered by Techdirt?!
....C'mon, where are the edit comment buttons? :-)
C'mon, where the "This t-shirt/hoodie/coffee mug is not available in your country."?

When the truth makes you look bad...
It's certainly better than looking at their bank account and doing it.

I don't believe you know the definition of "defending".
If I say "Hey, guy, your boat is sinking, and throwing marbles at the hole isn't going to fix it", I'm not "defending" flooding. I'm just pointing out that your actions aren't going to work.
As for piracy: It's not a matter or whether or not it's "okay", it's a matter of making a business model that is independent of the level of piracy, or better yet, thrives on piracy.
Your "simple, direct, yes-or-no question" is a straw man. Another "simple, direct, yes-or-no question" is "Have you told your family you like to have sex with goats?"
Well, have you?
Somehow I think the "this is only going to make it worse in the long run" angle is going to fall on deaf ears.
It's a little off topic, but I'm curious as to why you put the term "fan video" in quotes. Are you suggesting that the people wanting to share your art aren't your fans, or that what they uploaded aren't videos?
Further, I feel like some details are left out of your situation: Why would someone re-post a video you've already put up? Or, by "adequate videos", do you mean "videos of different songs than the one uploaded by the fan"?
The point I'm getting at is that these people are your fans, and clearly they want something that you're not giving them. Instead of treating them like criminals, why don't you just upload the songs they want to youtube?
The irony, of course, is that you're posting Anonymously and I'm not
To be fair, you're just as anonymous as he is. You're just accountable for what you've said in the past.
Side note: I've "upgraded" by Youtube account to use my real name. I ain't skeerd.
The band probably didn't get their name shown because they probably don't have the rights to their music. They couldn't take down (or, leave it up) if they wanted to.
Same here, except for it was for being a male stripper. My stage name was Nutty Delights.
What the fuck are you talking about?

You've been hit by Poe's Law, my friend.
