Thanks for bringing this subject up. Its about time that content producers realize that today's aggregators are tomorrows content distributors. Aggregators are a basic element of a new media newsflow platform. How people get their info online is so fragmented you need aggregators to market to and attract readers. Think of them as cyber newspaper stands distributing to e-mail, twitter streams, e-readers, and home media systems.
Content producers need to start working with the aggregators to create a platform for a personalized and custom news readers. A good example is http://www.Feedjournal.com and an the RSS Feed Aggregator Newspaper we've been creating at http://www.Libertynewsprint.com
That is:
The first E-Reader partnership that offers a FREE E-Reader with bundled subscriptions to Books and Newspapers will realize that they are able to monetize and control their digital content.
I think the hope for Newspapers to monetize their content lies in E-Readers. I would pay for my local newspapers content if they gave me an E-Reader with the subscription. The first E-Reader partnership that offers a FREE E-Reader with bundled subscriptions to Books and Newspapers will realize that they are able to monetize control their digital content.
http://www.LibertyNewsprint.com in is a custom feed newspaper powered by Feedjournal.com's publisher application. Our goal is to produce a digital newspaper that publishes a compelling mix of english language news feeds from all around the world.
Because Techdirt has a full text RSS feed I feature them in the Liberty Newsprint "feed" paper. Of course I give them full credit. Today I was checking my google analytic site and discovered that 43% of the unique visitors to my site visit my featured feed link sites. I remember my first copy of windows was free. Now everyone uses windows. Google search is free now ... TechDirt content is free next everyone will be reading their articles.
Hi All, from my point of view RSS feeds are useless unless they are full-text. The exception being Feeds that come from within your own organization, you should truncate them so that folks may choose to read only what is relevant to their job. When you WANT people to read something you give it straight to them without a bunch of hoops to jump through.
I publish an online Feed Newspaper at:
http://www.LibertyNewsprint.com
Using only full text feeds, you can print the paper out and read it off-line. I don't get lots of traffic yet but I find that people appreciate the archiving quality of the .PDF document.
Techdirt has not posted any stories submitted by Liberty Newsprint.
Does he have a blog?
Most writers get around this by having a blog. If he has a blog we'll showcase his work for free. http://www.Libertynewsprint.com
